l My wife and I planned a self-drive tour of Florida this year through Travel Counsellors and we wish to commend Georgina McAlister for her dedication, professionalism and hard work on our behalf. We contacted Georgina in May of this year regarding our idea of a self-drive holiday in Florida. Georgina was quick to tune into what we had in mind and gave good advice regarding places to stay, distances to drive, etc. We had never been to Florida before and her knowledge of the area gave us a very clear idea of places to see (and avoid!) and realistic distances to travel each day. She booked tickets for venues we wished to visit, advised on our flights, reminded us about the ESTA visa programme and the Zika virus. The holiday was provisionally booked that first day and confirmed a few days after. Georgina is always available, she has infinite patience when we bombard her with questions and has a knack of giving us the impression that we are the only client in the world. When we flew out we were aware that hurricane Matthew was in the Caribbean heading north but its projected path was unknown. However, during that day whilst travelling it became clear that the hurricane would arrive in Florida during the next few days. Georgina arranged to phone us that evening when we were at our hotel (Orlando/Titusville) to check the situation. We were late arriving but she had phoned our hotel at 11.00pm (UK time), spoke to reception to ascertain the weather status and left message for us to arrange contact the following day. That evening the authorities were certain that the hurricane would hit Miami and ordered an evacuation from the east coast. With the help of the hotel we managed to find hotels for the following two nights on the west coast. We travelled to the Gulf coast the following day and contacted Georgina. Due to the evacuation to the west coast, hotel rooms were almost impossible to find but Georgina found a hotel nearby for a further three nights after which we were back on our original itinerary for the last two nights. During the next few days Georgina kept in contact with us regarding the refunds she was able to negotiate with the hotels we were unable to use so much so that we knew the much reduced extra over cost we had incurred. Through Georgina, Travel Counsellors gave us a very personal service in such a way that we did not feel abandoned in what was at times a stressful and worrying time. In fact because of her dedicated hard work, advice and help we were able to enjoy what was in the end, a very different holiday. On our arrival back home Georgina contacted to check on our well-being and to confirm the final extra over costs. We had taken out travel insurance through Travel Counsellors and following discussions and advice from Georgina we made a claim and were successful in getting back the extra cost of the holiday. We consider that Georgina gave us an exemplary service. Her professional, calm, knowledgeable and dedicated attitude makes her a suburb ambassador for Travel Counsellors.
