A February Escape to the Costa del Sol

We’ve just returned from a wonderful four-night family break to the Costa del Sol — and it was exactly what we needed.

We travelled with close friends and their 12-year-old son, making it a fun, relaxed getaway for both adults and children. Even better, for February, we were treated to incredible sunshine and blue skies — an unexpected bonus that made the trip feel even more special.

Why the Costa del Sol Is Perfect for a Short Break

One of the best things about the Costa del Sol is how easy it is to reach from the UK. At just under a three-hour flight, it’s ideal for a long weekend or short family escape. Once you land at Málaga Airport, most resorts are within a 30-minute transfer — meaning your holiday truly begins almost as soon as you step off the plane. For this trip, we stayed in Benalmádena, a resort that offers the perfect balance of relaxation and activity.

Staying in Benalmádena

Our hotel was centrally located, which made everything incredibly convenient. We were just a five-minute walk from the beach and promenade, which stretches for miles — perfect for morning strolls or evening walks as the sun sets. In the other direction, we were only ten minutes from the stunning Puerto Marina Benalmádena. The marina is beautiful, lined with bars and restaurants, and is a fantastic spot to sit and watch the impressive yachts drift in and out. It’s lively without feeling overwhelming — ideal for families.

A Day Trip to Málaga

While we were there, we were keen to explore Málaga itself. It’s easily accessible by bus or train, but we opted for a taxi, which cost less than €20 each way — a surprisingly affordable and stress-free option. Málaga is a vibrant and cultural city with so much to offer. We visited the breathtaking Málaga Cathedral, wandered through the historic streets, and enjoyed time along the beautiful beach and extensive marina.

It’s the kind of place that genuinely offers something for all ages — whether you’re interested in history, shopping, food, or simply soaking up the atmosphere.

Final Thoughts

This short February break reminded us how refreshing a quick getaway can be. With reliable sunshine, easy travel, family-friendly resorts, and the perfect mix of relaxation and culture, the Costa del Sol is an excellent choice for a short escape from the UK — even in winter.
