Back to Danny’s: My Peaceful Greek Getaway in Alykanas, Zante
Alykanas is located on the north eastern coast of Zante, Alykanas is a laid-back resort with a lovely, traditional feel. It's only around an hours by coach from Zakynthos Airport, making it an easy transfer.
What made Alykanas so special for me was its peaceful atmosphere, welcoming locals, and a real sense of community. The resort is ideal for couples and families looking for a relaxed escape without crowds or nightlife chaos.
One of the highlights was the incredible choice of local tavernas, serving up homemade Greek dishes full of flavour and heart. Whether you're craving moussaka, fresh seafood, or just a comforting plate of souvlaki and chips, you’ll find it all here. Often with an English choice on the menu if preferred. The food is such good value, and for that reason, I’d highly recommend staying self-catering or B&B, so you can enjoy a different spot each night. My personal favourite restaurant choice was Paporo Taverna, which offered a perfect mix of traditional Greek cooking and warm hospitality.
Most hotels and apartments in Alykanas are small and friendly, and many welcome non-guests to use their pools and sunbeds as long as you grab a drink or bite to eat which adds to the sense of hospitality and ease.
I returned to Danny’s Hotel for my second visit, and once again received the warmest welcome. It's clear why so many people I spoke to had been visiting Alykanas for years. The resort has that rare, “hidden gem” feel. Nothing is too much trouble, and you’ll often see familiar faces in the tavernas or shops, always ready with a smile.
While Alykanas is perfect for relaxing, there’s also plenty to explore on the island:
Shipwreck Beach (Navagio) is one of the most famous beaches in the world, with crystal blue waters and a dramatic cliffside setting.
Blue Caves is another place to see where you take a boat trip from nearby resorts and see these stunning natural sea caves up close.
Zante Town is the island's capital has shops, history, a marina, and beautiful sea views. I liked going here last year and you can easily book trips when you arrive.
Alykes is a neighbouring resort you can walk to along the beach or coast road for even more tavernas and shops. Which we did a nice relaxing beach walk and had a superb meal here one evening.
If you're looking for an easy-going, value-for-money Greek escape with authentic charm, friendly faces, and great food I think Alykanas should be on your list. I left feeling rested, welcomed, and already thinking about when I can return again. Everyone knows I'm fussy, there is nothing fancy about the resort but you leave feeling happy!
