'I want to go away ... but don't know where!'

You get in touch with me as you want to go on holiday but you aren’t really sure where to go or what to do. So, I ask you some questions about what you like or don’t like about holidays. What you like or don’t like doing on holiday. I come away from this conversation with a nice list

• You want to relax but not sit by a pool for a week or two.

• You like the convenience of All-inclusive, but you want some options and you may want to eat outside of your resort complex to explore local cuisine.

• When you go on holiday you like to immerse yourself in the area – you don’t want to stay in the resort all of the time.

• You definitely don’t want somewhere really crowded where you can’t get a seat in the bar, or by the pool.

• Long haul or short haul – you aren’t don’t have a preference.

• Somewhere with activities would be nice. You like cycling and enjoy walking, but you would also like to try some new things: maybe something like yoga.

• The option of a spa would be great.

• Evening entertainment is important, but you don’t want something that is just a DJ by the pool, or karaoke in the bar. In the past you’ve liked holidays were you have been able to experience local entertainment.

• You are a big foodie and you enjoy a nice meal, paired with a nice bottle of wine.

• Thinking about past holidays you’ve really enjoyed a trip to a local vineyard in the South of France, exploring historical places, and city breaks.

• You want something that is easy – you like exploring the area but are sometimes concerned about getting lost, or being on your own somewhere unfamiliar.

• You definitely like to have those ‘wow’ experiences – something that not many people get to do and so it would feel really special.

• You are looking for those ‘instagramable’ moments and places.

Perhaps you recognise some or all of these in your wish list for a holiday?

How would you feel if I said that I had the perfect option for you, but one that you may not have thought about before. Something that is often thought of as a holiday for retirees. Spoiler: it’s not just for your grandparents! And so I recommend … a river cruise.

A river cruise? Absolutely. It will offer you all that you’ve asked for and much more. From the European rivers in Germany, France, and Portugal, to more far-flung rivers in India, Vietnam, and Egypt – to name but a few – a river cruise will allow you to explore a country or region like never before. It is often said that an ocean cruise takes you around a country, but a river cruise takes you through a country. With so many cruise lines and ships to choose from, and so many destinations to visit, I can find the right one for you to give you the holiday of a life time. From a 5 night Christmas market cruise, to a 2 week cruise down the Danube the options are endless. You can even combine it with an extended land stay, either on your own or fully escorted. The later is perfect for countries like India and Vietnam.

You’d be surprised what this type of holiday can offer you.
