Why Getting the Right Maldivian Island Matters....
When you picture the Maldives, you probably think of overwater villas, turquoise lagoons and swaying palms. But one of the most important decisions you will make is which island to choose. No two islands feel the same: some are intimate and romantic, some are lively and sociable, some feel wonderfully rustic and barefoot. Having recently experienced several Atmosphere resorts on a fam trip, Varu, Sangeli, Xperience and Kanifushi: I have seen first-hand how different each island feels. That insight is exactly what I use to match you with the island that really fits your style, your pace and your budget. Let me share how each one comes to life.
Varu: Intimate Island Bliss for Honeymoons
Varu is, in my view, made for honeymooners and couples who want that effortlessly romantic, small-island feel.
The resort feels more intimate than some of the larger islands, so it is very easy to slip into your own little bubble together. The dining here is excellent, with a choice of restaurants and the option to elevate your stay with special experiences such as a wine cellar evening or a sizzling Teppanyaki dinner.
Sangeli: Lively, Fun and Perfect for Social Souls
Sangeli is one of my personal favourites because I love an island with a bit of energy and atmosphere, and Sangeli really brings the fun.
The all inclusive offering is extensive, so you will be thoroughly spoilt for choice. From Asian flavours to fresh seafood, you can eat somewhere different and exciting each day, and still feel like you have more to discover. If you are celebrating a honeymoon or special occasion, a private beach dinner is a wonderful way to end the day beneath the stars.
Kanifushi: Space, Variety and That Seaplane Wow Factor
Kanifushi is the largest of the islands I stayed on and it really suits those who like a bit of everything: lots of activities, plenty of space, yet still the feel of a secluded island escape.
Because of its size, Kanifushi can offer an excellent variety of things to do, so it is ideal if you enjoy more than just sunbathing and swimming. You still get that barefoot luxury and stretch of quiet beach, but with more choice day-to-day. You reach Kanifushi by seaplane, which is something special in itself.
Hengeli: Rustic, Barefoot and Perfect for Disconnecting
If you are drawn to a more rustic, authentic island feel, I would guide you towards Hengeli.
Think barefoot luxury, excellent snorkelling and a genuine sense of switching off from the outside world. This is the place to go if you dream of walking around with sandy feet, snorkelling straight from the beach and really slowing down your pace.
Room Types: Why I Recommend Splitting Your Stay
Most couples picture themselves in an overwater villa when they think of the Maldives, and that dream is absolutely possible. However, if your budget allows, I often recommend splitting your stay between two villa types.
A beach villa with a private pool is every bit as special as a water villa, just in a different way. You get that lovely sense of space, your own stretch of sand and the pool right there when you step outside.
How I Help You Choose Your Perfect Island
The reason choosing the right island matters so much is that the Maldives is not a one-size-fits-all destination. The atmosphere, dining, activities, style and even the transfer all shape how your holiday feels.
I am here when you are ready to find the island that is right for you.
Warm wishes,
Jen.
