My Jordan Adventure
There are some trips that stay with you long after you unpack your suitcase. Jordan is firmly one of them. In just a few days I moved from candlelit ancient cities to vast desert skies and then on to the warm, clear waters of the Red Sea. The contrast is extraordinary, yet it all feels beautifully connected.

My first glimpse of Petra was not in daylight, but by candlelight.
Petra by Night is one of the most atmospheric experiences I have ever had. You walk quietly through the Siq, the narrow sandstone canyon, guided only by hundreds of flickering candles. The anticipation builds with every step until the Treasury slowly reveals itself, glowing against the darkness. It feels almost theatrical, yet deeply spiritual. Sitting on the ground beneath the stars, listening to traditional music echo against the rock walls, was utterly mesmerising.
It is the most beautiful introduction to the Red City you could ask for.
Exploring the Rose-Red City
The following morning, I returned with a guide to properly explore Petra in daylight. And what a difference the sun makes, bringing out the pinks, reds and deep oranges in the stone.
Standing in front of the Treasury, knowing it was carved over 2,000 years ago by the Nabataeans, is humbling. Our guide brought the history to life, explaining how this was once a thriving trading hub connecting Arabia, Egypt and the Mediterranean.
We continued beyond the Treasury to the vast Roman Theatre, carved directly into the rock face, and on towards the Royal Tombs, often referred to as the Princess Castle area. The scale is astonishing. Every turn reveals another façade, another hidden carving, another reminder of how advanced and artistic this civilisation was.
It is not just historically significant, it is breathtakingly beautiful. The landscape itself feels alive, shaped by wind, time and human ingenuity.

Wadi Rum, silence and starlight
From ancient city to open desert, the journey to Wadi Rum is spectacular in its own right.
We explored the desert by jeep, weaving between towering sandstone mountains and endless red sand. It feels otherworldly, almost lunar in places, which explains why so many films have been shot here.
That evening, we were treated to a traditional Bedouin meal cooked underground, known as zarb. The flavours were simple and delicious, and sharing it together under canvas felt wonderfully authentic.
Sleeping in a bubble tent in the middle of the desert is something I will never forget. Lying in bed, looking up at a sky scattered with stars, with complete silence all around, is pure magic. The stargazing here is extraordinary. With no light pollution, the Milky Way feels close enough to touch.

Aqaba and the Red Sea
Our final stop was Aqaba on the shores of the Red Sea.
After the drama of Petra and the vastness of Wadi Rum, Aqaba offers a softer, coastal finish. We took a cruise along the coastline, dropping anchor for snorkelling in the clear, warm water. The coral reefs are vibrant and full of life, and the visibility is excellent.
The afternoon was spent simply relaxing on the beach, soaking up the sunshine and reflecting on the journey. It is a lovely way to balance culture and adventure with a little well earned rest.
The people and the contrasts
What struck me most about Jordan, beyond the landscapes and history, was the warmth of the people. Everywhere we went, we were met with genuine kindness and pride in their country. Guides, drivers, camp hosts, hotel staff, all keen to share stories and ensure we felt welcome.
In a relatively small country you experience an incredible variety. Ancient Nabataean cities, Roman influences, Bedouin traditions, desert wilderness and marine life, all within a short drive of each other. It makes for a wonderfully varied itinerary without feeling rushed.

Jordan is ideal for travellers who want history, scenery, culture and a touch of adventure, all wrapped into one manageable trip. It can be tailored beautifully, whether you prefer boutique hotels, luxury desert camps or something more authentic and simple.
If Jordan has been on your list, I would love to talk it through with you. Having experienced it first hand, I can help you plan it in a way that flows effortlessly, with the right guides, the right pacing and those little touches that make it truly memorable.
