Trips Built Around What You Love

Food, Sport and Culture at the Heart of Travel

Jessica Aspin on 21 Apr 2026

One of the loveliest shifts I’m seeing with clients at the moment is this move away from simply choosing a destination, and instead starting with what they actually enjoy. Rather than “where shall we go this year”, it’s becoming “what do we want to experience”. And from there, the trip naturally falls into place. It makes for a much more personal holiday. The kind where every day feels considered, and you come home feeling like you’ve really experienced something, not just seen it.

For the Food Lovers: Travel That Tastes as Good as It Looks

Food has become one of the biggest drivers behind travel decisions, and it’s easy to see why. It’s such a natural way to connect with a place.

Morocco Dining

Italy is always a favourite, particularly regions like Tuscany where you can base yourself in the countryside and enjoy farm-to-table dining, wine tastings and even cooking classes. There’s something quite special about learning to make pasta properly and then sitting down to enjoy it with a local wine.

Japan offers something completely different, especially in Osaka, where street food is an experience in itself. From small, family-run spots to bustling markets, it’s vibrant, varied and full of flavour.

And then there’s Morocco. Spending time in Marrakech, wandering through the souks and learning the art of a traditional tagine, gives you a real sense of place.

Food-led travel works beautifully when it’s paced well. A mix of experiences, downtime and a few special dining moments really makes it feel indulgent without being overwhelming.

For the Culture Seekers: Travel with a Story Behind It

For many, travel is about understanding a destination, not just visiting it. History, art and local traditions bring a place to life in a completely different way.

Japan

Japan again stands out here, particularly Kyoto, where you can explore temples, traditional tea houses and centuries-old customs that are still very much part of everyday life.

In contrast, somewhere like Petra in Jordan offers that sense of awe. It’s one of those places that genuinely stops you in your tracks.

Or closer to home, Rome is always a classic for a reason. You can spend days wandering through layers of history, from ancient ruins to Renaissance art, with excellent food never far away.

The key with cultural trips is balance. Guided experiences add so much depth, but equally, having time to explore at your own pace keeps it enjoyable rather than exhausting.

For the Sport and Adventure Lovers: More Than Just Sitting Still

For those who like to be a little more active, travel can be built around experiences that get you moving, whether that’s on land or at sea.

Caribbean Sailing

The Dolomites in northern Italy are brilliant for walking holidays, with routes to suit different levels and some of the most dramatic scenery in Europe.

If you prefer being on the water, sailing in the Caribbean or snorkelling in coral-rich areas adds a completely different dimension to a beach holiday.

And of course, cruising fits in beautifully here. Modern ships offer everything from fitness classes and sports courts to shore excursions that include hiking, kayaking or cycling. It’s a very easy way to combine activity with comfort.

Why This Style of Travel Works So Well

Building a trip around your interests creates a completely different experience.

You’re not trying to fit into a destination. The destination is working for you.

It often means:

  • More meaningful and memorable experiences
  • A better balance of activity and relaxation
  • Less time wasted trying to decide what to do each day
  • A trip that feels genuinely personal

It’s also where careful planning really comes into its own. Knowing which regions suit certain experiences, how to pace it properly and where to include those standout moments makes all the difference.

Some of the best trips I’ve helped plan haven’t started with a map. They’ve started with a simple conversation about what someone enjoys.

Good food, a love of history, a passion for being outdoors. From there, we build something that feels completely tailored.

If you’re thinking about your next holiday and want it to feel a little more “you”, this is a lovely way to approach it. And it often leads to places and experiences you might not have considered otherwise, which is usually where the magic happens.
