Sun, Sea & Lifelong Friendships: My Winning Adventure on NCL Encore

In June, I was incredibly proud to be part of the winning Travel Counsellors team awarded a once-in-a-lifetime adventure aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line’s remarkable ship, NCL Encore. After flying out separately from the UK, many of us reunited in the vibrant heart of South Beach, Miami. Although I’ve visited Florida many times before, experiencing South Beach’s unique energy, colourful streets and infectious pulse—even briefly—was something truly special. It was the perfect backdrop for forging new friendships.

All too soon, it was time to board NCL Encore. Stepping onto this beautiful ship, I was eager to explore every detail. My home-away-from-home was a balcony cabin: the ideal spot to savour golden sunsets and the gentle sea breeze. The sail away party set the tone—buzzing with excitement and anticipation, it’s a feeling you never quite forget.

Our week struck the perfect balance: invaluable time at sea learning more about NCL and Travel Counsellors, combined with ample opportunities to unwind, connect, and discover new delights. Our first port was NCL’s private island in Belize. Here, I tried paddleboarding for the very first time—carefully scouring the water for manatees (and feeling rather pleased with myself for staying upright!). Lunch was a joyful, sun-soaked affair with new TC friends: those effortless travel moments that become treasured memories.

Next, we arrived in the breathtaking island of Roatan, Honduras. A fellow TC and I ventured north for a snorkelling trip to the world-famous reef, where we explored a shipwreck and spent time in a magical area known for its resident starfish. The underwater world was utterly dazzling—each hour here felt like a true gift.

Life aboard NCL Encore matched the very best of a land-based luxury holiday, with a dazzling variety of experiences and the added delight of waking up somewhere new every day. Our ‘Free at Sea’ package included all our drinks, WiFi, and a trio of speciality dining experiences. We savoured Texan flavours, shared laughter at the teppanyaki grill, and indulged in fresh sushi. Whether you crave casual bites or elegant fine dining, the ship’s array of bars, lounges and restaurants will spoil you for choice.

Our final stop took us to Grand Cayman: famous for its turquoise shallows and powdery sand. We sailed out to a sandbar where we mingled with friendly stingrays, before more snorkelling and a delicious lunch—lobster was a stand-out treat—then finished with a spot of shopping before returning to the ship.

Back on board, the fun never seemed to stop. You could relax in peaceful hideaways or ramp up the excitement with go-karting, the virtual reality arena, or even an escape room. Encore truly offers something for every mood and every guest.

But above it all, it was the connections that meant the most: making new friends, learning from fellow TCs, and sharing unforgettable experiences. I returned with deep insights into NCL, a renewed appreciation for premium cruising, and—most importantly—friendships that will last a lifetime.
