price vs value

Price vs Value and Why your holiday budget deserves to know the difference ✈️

Kayleigh Benney on 20 Jan 2026

When it comes to booking a holiday, one mistake causes more disappointment than almost anything else: Confusing price with value. The cheapest trip is not always the best deal. And the most expensive trip isn’t automatically “luxury”. Yet so many people book based on price alone - and only realise the cost once they’re already there. So let’s clear it up. Price vs Value - what’s the difference? Price is what you pay upfront. Value is what you actually get in return - comfort, convenience, ease, better memories, fewer headaches, and far less of that “why did we book this?” feeling. Here’s what that looks like in real-life travel decisions 👇

Family Holidays 🏖️

The cheaper option often looks like this:

  • Rock-bottom hotel price
  • A tiny room for four people (plus suitcases)
  • Kids’ club run by one exhausted teen and a pack of crayons
  • Parents spending the week refereeing arguments

A better-value option looks like this:

  • Slightly higher price
  • A family room that actually fits everyone
  • A proper kids’ club and splash park
  • Parents drinking coffee while it’s still hot ☕

👉 You didn’t overspend. You bought peace.

City Breaks 🏙️

The “cheap” choice:

  • Bargain hotel… 45 minutes from everything
  • ÂŁ50–£60 a day on taxis
  • Constantly checking transport apps
  • Exhausted by day two

The value choice:

  • Central hotel
  • Walkable sights, cafĂŠs and attractions
  • More time exploring, less time travelling
  • You actually enjoy the city

👉 Saving £100 on the hotel but losing half your trip isn’t value.

Flights ✈️

Cheap flights usually mean:

  • 5am departures
  • Two stopovers
  • No luggage included
  • Extra fees added later for bags, seats, and sanity

Better value flights mean:

  • Direct routes
  • Sensible flight times
  • Luggage included
  • Arriving rested, not questioning your life choices

A quick expert tip 🧠 (worth saving)

Before you book, ask yourself:

  • Will this save me money — or cost me time, stress, or enjoyment?
  • Am I paying less now… or just paying later in taxis, upgrades and painkillers?
  • What will Future Me be thankful for on day three of the trip?

What value really looks like ✨

Value isn’t just about the headline price. It’s about:

  • Location
  • Comfort
  • Convenience
  • What’s included
  • How you feel during the trip — not just on day one

Anyone can find a cheap deal online.
Knowing when something is actually worth it? That’s where experience matters.

If you want holidays that make sense financially and feel good while you’re there, that’s where I come in.

Because holidays are meant to be enjoyed…
not survived 😌✈️
