Short break to Cap St George, Pegia, Cyprus
I enjoyed a lovely 5 days here in March and the weather was a pleasant 20 - 23 degrees. We did manage a few hours relaxing around the pool and a quick dip in it too. It’s a nice time to visit for a short break as its not as hot or as busy compared to the peak summer months.
The hotel is 5* understated luxury in a very quiet location, away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist resorts. Ideal for a relaxing few days or longer if you would like to hire a car and explore further.
The food at the hotel was very good, fresh and lots of choice. We ate at the Italian, Mediterranean and Teppanyaki restaurants as well as the buffet for breakfasts – all were very good.
We did make use of the lovely spa too with indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam and salt therapy room.
The local area is quiet. There is a coastal path about 3km from the front of the hotel which has lovely coastal views. On one side it leads to some beautiful sea caves and the other direction leads to Agios Georgios – a lovely tiny fishing village with an archaeological site, fishing harbour, Church, local shop and restaurant.
We did venture out further to explore Cyprus a little. We visited Omodos, a village in the Troödos Mountains, located in the Limassol District of Cyprus. The village produces local wine and holds a wine festival every August. We visited the 17th-century stone-built monastery and walked around the cobblestone paths. We sampled the local wine and food at Katoi authentic restaurant with traditional music and dancing. There are several restaurants, traditional tavernas and shops, housed in traditional buildings. On the way we also stopped at Aphrodites Rock – a sea stack just off the shore on the road from Paphos to Limassol.
We had a fabulous afternoon with lunch, local music and dancing at St George farm which is owned by the hotel and where they grow a lot of their own organic fruit and vegetables for the hotel. They also make their own Olive Oil and Honey here too.
We also visited Agios Georgios Pegeia Archaeological Site, The Mosaics in Paphos Unesco World Heritage Site, The marina area in Paphos and The Tombs of the Kings Unesco World Heritage Site.
A lovely short break and some sunshine to re charge the batteries.
