Customer Blog: Romantic Break in Budapest 2025
Budapest, is a beautiful city steeped in history and adorned with stunning architecture, offers a truly unforgettable travel experience. Divided by the river, there is fun to be had exploring both sides. Take your walking shoes - as lots of cobbles. A great city for history lovers, foodies, and shopaholics. So, something for everyone!
Buda Castle
==========
First up was a walk to see the breathtaking Buda Castle. Its stunning architecture, offers panoramic views of the city. Perched on top of a hill, the castle complex provides a window into Hungary's rich heritage, but with a modern twist – escalators have been added to help you up that hill !
Fisherman's Bastion
================
Next, we visited Fisherman's Bastion, which boasts the best views of the Hungarian Parliament and the Danube River. Fisherman's Bastion is a stunning architectural marvel in Buda Castle District Budapest. Built in the late 19th century, it offers a fairytale-like setting and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Szechenyi Thermal Spas
====================
For a touch of relaxation and history, we indulged in the Szechenyi Thermal Spas. There are 15 indoor pools, saunas and steam rooms to explore. There were a lot of people, and it was hard to find an available sunbed. However, the warm and sunny weather made the day enjoyable and fun.
The Parliament building
======================
The Parliament building, a notable landmark and architectural gem, stands as a symbol of Hungary's long journey towards independence and self-identity. Its intricate design and imposing presence reflect the nation's resilience and aspirations.
"Shoes on the Danube Bank."
======================
A deeply moving experience was visiting the "Shoes on the Danube Bank." This memorial gives remembrance to the 3,500 people who were tragically shot into the Danube during the Second World War. It’s on the Pest side, about a 10-minute walk away from the Hungarian Parliament so it’s a must see either before or after visiting the Parliament. Some visitors left behind flowers or tied ribbons to the shoes to pay their respects. Go early as there is a crowd of people there all trying to take their pictures.
We loved discovering the various quirky bars that Budapest had to offer. The For Sale and Tiki Bar were our favourites. The For Sale pub was lively with live music. Rumpus Tiki Bar was great for cocktails.
One of the highlights of our break away was an evening cruise with dinner on the river. Amazing (and so romantic!) seeing the city – illuminated from the river.
