Breathtaking scenery, mouthwatering Italian cuisine, and limoncello on tap – it’s no wonder the Amalfi Coast sits high on so many bucket lists. I was lucky enough to visit this iconic destination in early October 2024, and let me tell you, it was absolutely sensational! That said, it was far from a lazy getaway – this coastline is packed with incredible sights, flavours, and experiences just waiting to be explored. I documented my trip in a series of reels over on my social media, sharing plenty of tips along the way. Be sure to check them out – I’ll pop my handles at the bottom of this blog! When’s the Best Time to Visit? I visited during the first week of October, and it was the perfect choice – a comfortable 24°C, ideal for exploring. The peak season runs from late July to early September, and I’d strongly recommend avoiding this period if possible. Not only are the crowds at their heaviest, but there are also driving restrictions to limit traffic into the towns. Locals even mentioned that during peak season, restaurants require reservations well in advance – or you could be waiting hours for a table! The summer heat can also be intense, which isn’t ideal for a trip filled with sightseeing. In my opinion, the sweet spots are June to mid-July and September to October – the best of the weather without the chaos! Where to Stay We based ourselves in Furore, a charming little town just a 20-minute drive from Amalfi. Hiring a car proved to be a great decision, as it gave us the freedom to visit places like Ravello and even take a day trip to Pompeii. Parking at the port of Amalfi was easy and surprisingly affordable, making it simple to hop on a ferry to explore Positano, Sorrento, and Capri. Where to Visit Ravello A true hidden gem! Often overlooked in favour of more famous spots, Ravello offers a much quieter, more relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend stopping for lunch in the square outside the Duomo before visiting one of the stunning villas. We chose Villa Rufolo, and the panoramic coastal views from its beautifully manicured gardens were simply breathtaking. Amalfi Start with a drink at Hotel Santa Caterina, soaking in the stunning coastal views before heading into town. The main square, right in front of the Duomo (pronounced ‘dwow-mo’), is buzzing with restaurants and shops selling pottery, limoncello, and beautiful Italian fabrics. If you fancy a bit of downtime, there’s also a beach where you can rent sunbeds for the day – a perfect way to recharge! Positano The picture-perfect postcard town! Approaching Positano by ferry is simply magical – vibrant streets, the delicious aroma of Italian cuisine in the air, and the lively hum of locals chatting away. Visiting in October meant fewer crowds, allowing us to wander at our own pace. Don’t miss out on the stunning handmade pottery – the perfect keepsake from this gorgeous town! There’s plenty to do here, from relaxing on the beach to taking a ceramic or cookery class with a local expert. If you’re feeling adventurous, hike the famous Path of the Gods for jaw-dropping views. For lunch, we dined at Terrazza Celè at Hotel Marincanto – an unforgettable meal with an equally impressive view. Sorrento While not technically on the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento makes a fantastic base for exploring the region, with easy ferry access to Amalfi, Positano, and Capri. Accommodation options here are plentiful, and it’s also a breeze to reach from Naples airport. That said, I found Sorrento lacked the charm of the smaller Amalfi towns – but it’s still worth considering, especially for convenience. Pompeii An absolute must-visit! We stopped here on our way back to the airport, and it was nothing short of mesmerising. Pompeii is incredibly well-preserved, offering a fascinating glimpse into a city frozen in time. It’s easily accessible by train from Naples or Sorrento, and if you’re driving, there’s plenty of parking available. We booked a guided tour, and I’d highly recommend doing the same – the site is enormous, and a guide will help you make the most of your visit. Fun fact: it would take seven days at eight hours a day to explore all of Pompeii, so you’re really only scratching the surface! Planning Your Trip? If you’re thinking about visiting the Amalfi Coast, I’d love to help! Having explored multiple hotels, restaurants, and experiences first-hand, I have plenty of recommendations to share. It’s a truly spectacular destination that everyone should experience at least once. Arrivederci!

Koh Samui, a tropical gem nestled in the Gulf of Thailand, is an island that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit. I had the privilege of exploring this enchanting destination as part of a multi-centre trip to Thailand, which also included the bustling city of Bangkok. Koh Samui, however, was a world apart despite being only a 1 hour flight away, offers a unique blend of serene beaches, vibrant markets, culinary adventures, and cultural exploration. Fisherman's Night Market: One of the first experiences that greeted me on Koh Samui was the Fisherman's Night Market in Bophut Beach. This lively market is a vibrant tapestry of Thai culture, where you can browse through colourful stalls brimming with exotic souvenirs. The aroma of street food wafts through the air, tempting your taste buds. You can sip on a refreshing drink, listen to traditional music, and indulge in an array of delectable street food. It's an evening of sensory delight, and a perfect way to immerse yourself in the local atmosphere. Bophut Beach: Bophut Beach, the backdrop for the Fisherman's Night Market, is a haven for beach lovers. The beachfront restaurants here offer not only mouthwatering Thai cuisine but also captivating views of the sea. Dining on the beachfront with the gentle waves lapping at the shore is an experience that will make your visit truly unforgettable. Cooking Class at Anantara Lawana Resort: One of the highlights of my trip was a cooking class at the luxurious 5-star Anantara Lawana Resort. The experience started with a tour of the local markets, giving us a glimpse into where locals source their fresh produce. We had the opportunity to engage with the vibrant community and even purchased a turtle and some fish to release at a nearby temple, a deeply moving experience. Returning to the resort, our cooking station was perfectly situated overlooking the pristine beach. It was undoubtedly the most scenic kitchen I've ever had the pleasure of cooking in. The culinary journey that followed was nothing short of sensational. Under the guidance of a skilled chef, we crafted an array of Thai dishes, including flavourful fish cakes, rich Massaman curry, succulent baked sea bass, and aromatic stir-fries. Each bite was a taste of authenticity, and the experience left me with newfound appreciation for Thai cuisine. Exploring Koh Samui: Koh Samui is not just about the beaches and the markets; it also boasts a rich cultural heritage. During my stay, I embarked on an island tour that took me to some of the most remarkable places on the island. • Big Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Yai): This iconic temple is home to a towering 12-meter golden Buddha statue that is a sight to behold. The temple's serene surroundings and the mesmerizing views it offers make it a must-visit. • Wat Plai Laem: This peaceful temple complex features stunning statues and serene surroundings. The intricate architecture and spiritual ambiance create a sense of tranquillity that is deeply refreshing. • Na Muang Waterfalls: A visit to the Na Muang Waterfalls was a refreshing and invigorating experience. The natural beauty of the cascading water, surrounded by lush greenery, is a testament to Koh Samui's untouched natural wonders. Having had the privilege to visit Thailand, I can personally attest to the incredible friendliness of its people. From the moment I arrived in this enchanting country, I was greeted with warm smiles and open arms. The Thai locals have an extraordinary knack for making you feel like an honoured guest, regardless of whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveller. Their genuine curiosity about your well-being, their eagerness to help, and their respect for visitors are truly heart warming. I found their friendliness to be deeply rooted in their culture, and it's a testament to their tradition of "Sanuk," the pursuit of happiness in life. My trip to Thailand wasn't just about exploring its stunning landscapes; it was also about forging unforgettable connections with the warm and welcoming Thai people. Our island tour also took us to some of the island's most breath-taking viewpoints. The panoramic vistas from these vantage points offer a glimpse of Koh Samui's stunning landscapes and reinforce the island's reputation as a tropical paradise. In conclusion, Koh Samui is a destination that has it all – from the bustling markets and vibrant cultural experiences to the serene beaches and sumptuous culinary adventures. My visit to this enchanting island was a journey of discovery, leaving me with a deep appreciation for the beauty, culture, and flavours of Thailand. If you're interested in exploring Koh Samui's unique offerings, please get in touch so I can create your bespoke holiday. This tropical island caters to a wide range of travellers, from seasoned adventurers to first-timers.
