Legend Of The Seas

I Spent a Week on Royal Caribbean's Newest Ship – Here's What I Honestly Thought

Mel Stead on 04 Jul 2026

As a travel consultant, I'm lucky enough to experience some truly incredible destinations around the world. But every now and then, something genuinely surprises me. Recently, I was invited onboard Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas before she welcomes her first guests, giving me the opportunity to explore every corner of what is now the world's newest and largest cruise ship. I'll admit, I arrived with an open mind. I've sailed before, but I wanted to experience Legend through the eyes of my clients. Would it really live up to the hype? Would it suit families? Couples? Multi-generational holidays? Solo travellers? The answer was a very easy yes.

First Impressions

Nothing prepares you for the sheer scale of Legend of the Seas.

The moment you step onboard, you realise this isn't simply a cruise ship – it's more like a floating luxury resort. Despite its size, it never felt overwhelming. The clever design means every neighbourhood has its own personality, whether you're looking for lively entertainment or somewhere peaceful to relax with a coffee.

I genuinely found myself discovering new places every day.

There Really Is Something For Everyone

One of the biggest misconceptions about cruising is that everyone wants the same holiday. Legend completely changes that.

If you're travelling with children, there are excellent children’s clubs for all ages, waterparks, surf simulators, climbing walls, entertainment, sports courts and activities running throughout the day.

Teenagers have spaces they'll actually want to spend time in, while adults can escape to sophisticated restaurant and bars, luxurious spa facilities, adults-only areas and peaceful lounges.

What impressed me most was that families can enjoy time together without feeling like they're constantly compromising.

My Favourite Place Onboard

Without question, Central Park became my sanctuary.

It's hard to believe you're in the middle of the ocean when you're surrounded by thousands of real plants, elegant restaurants, cafés and peaceful seating areas.

It became my favourite place to escape with a coffee, catch up on work or simply watch the world go by.

Another surprise was The Overlook. Tucked away from the busier areas of the ship, it offers panoramic ocean views and a wonderfully calming atmosphere. If you're someone who worries that cruise ships are always busy, this space completely changes that perception.

Entertainment That Rivals The West End

I've watched plenty of cruise shows over the years, but the entertainment onboard Legend genuinely exceeded my expectations.

The production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was outstanding. From the performances and choreography to the special effects (yes, you really can smell chocolate drifting through the theatre), it felt every bit as polished as many productions I've seen in London's West End.

Fusion, the breathtaking ice skating spectacular, completely blew me away. The athleticism of the skaters, combined with incredible costumes, lighting and visual effects, made it one of the highlights of my entire trip.

Shockwave, performed in the AquaTheatre, delivered another unforgettable evening with high diving, acrobatics and stunning visual production.

Every evening felt like seeing a headline performance rather than simply filling time before dinner.

A Spa That Encourages You To Slow Down

One of the biggest surprises for me was how easy it was to find peaceful spaces onboard.

I treated myself to a hot stone massage using Elemis products and honestly could have stayed there all afternoon. The range of treatments available was fantastic.

Whether you want to spend your holiday constantly on the go or simply unwind with a book overlooking the ocean, Legend gives you both options.

Dining Around The World

Food is always an important part of any holiday and Legend certainly doesn't disappoint.

From relaxed cafés and casual dining to elegant speciality restaurants, there are options for every mood and every occasion. The quality, presentation and service consistently impressed me throughout the voyage.

More Than Just The Ship

During our sailing we also visited some beautiful Mediterranean ports, reminding me that cruising isn't just about the ship itself. You unpack once, wake up somewhere new almost every morning and enjoy the perfect balance of exploration and relaxation without constantly changing hotels or repacking suitcases.

For busy families, couples and multi-generational groups, that's a huge advantage.

Who Would I Recommend Legend Of The Seas To?

Honestly?

Almost everyone.

  • Families wanting an unforgettable holiday.
  • Couples looking for luxury with plenty of choice.
  • Grandparents travelling with children and grandchildren.
  • Groups of friends celebrating special occasions.
  • Even people who've always said, "Cruises aren't really for me."

Legend challenges many of the old stereotypes about cruising.

My Final Thoughts

After spending time onboard, I completely understand why Royal Caribbean continues to lead the way in family and resort-style cruising.

Legend of the Seas isn't simply about being the biggest ship in the world. It's about creating a holiday where every member of the family can enjoy exactly the type of break they want, all while travelling together.

As someone who has now experienced the ship first-hand, I can confidently help you choose the right cabin, neighbourhood, dining options and itinerary to make the most of your holiday.

If you've ever wondered whether a cruise is right for you, I'd love to share my experience and help you decide.

After all, there's nothing quite like advice from someone who's actually been there.
