My name is Sharon Messett and I have more than 30 years’ experience in the travel industry, including 20 working as a Travel Counsellor. It’s a role I love, as it gives me the chance to embrace my passion for travel on a daily basis, exploring new destinations through my research as well as returning to old favourites. I find it enormously rewarding helping my clients find the best experience possible for the type of holiday they want, whether it be a ‘flop and drop’ family beachside holiday, or a luxury retreat.
I have been fortunate to have travelled extensively myself; including trips to Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific, Southeast Asia, Africa, North America and the Caribbean, and have gained intimate knowledge of these long-haul destinations. Now that I have children, I am enjoying discovering more short-haul destinations around Europe including some amazing road trips with them to central Europe. For me, one of the best things about travel is the freedom that it gives you – travel brings anticipation, education, excitement and the joy of adventure into your life!
TRAVEL WITH A CONSCIENCE
My travels have also shown me the positive and negative effects of tourism; at its best when it is supporting communities who rely on visitors for their income, and at its worst where over-tourism has had a detrimental effect on locals and the environment. Over time, this has given me the opportunity to reflect, and I have realised that I have a growing interest in sustainable tourism. I would like to help you to find holidays and destinations which are amazing experiences and have a minimal impact or preferably offer positive environmental footprints.
Travelling sustainably and responsibly is becoming increasingly more and more important for many travellers, and as your Travel Advisor I can carefully consider how to assist in building your perfect itinerary to make your trip kind to both people and our planet. I believe that sustainable travel also helps us to have more authentic travel experiences – visiting unspoilt places and immersing in the local culture is one of my passions, and one that I share with many of my clients.
