When it comes to honeymoon destinations, the Maldives is often at the top of many couples' lists—and for good reason. With its powdery white beaches, crystal-clear waters, and luxurious resorts, the Maldives is a true paradise for those seeking romance and relaxation. Whether you’re dreaming of a private overwater villa, a quiet beachfront retreat, or an eco-luxury escape, this tropical haven offers something special for every couple. In this blog, we'll explore everything you need to know to plan the perfect romantic honeymoon in the Maldives, from secluded resorts to budget-friendly options. The Maldives: A Romantic Escape Like No Other Imagine waking up to the sound of gentle waves lapping at the shore, with nothing but blue skies and turquoise waters outside your window. The Maldives, made up of over 1,000 islands scattered across the Indian Ocean, is an idyllic setting for couples looking to spend quality time together in the ultimate tranquil environment. Choosing the Right Resort for Your Honeymoon The Maldives has no shortage of luxurious resorts, but not all are created equal when it comes to creating the perfect honeymoon experience. Some resorts cater to couples who seek peace and privacy in an adults-only environment, while others focus on offering activities, dining, and entertainment for those looking to explore together. Here’s what to consider when choosing the right resort for your romantic escape: Peace and Privacy: Adults-Only Resorts If you’re dreaming of a quiet, serene getaway without the presence of children, the Maldives has a variety of adults-only resorts. These places offer the ultimate in tranquility, allowing couples to fully relax and reconnect. Resorts like COMO Cocoa Island and Soneva Fushi provide wellness-focused experiences, such as yoga and spa treatments, set in intimate, peaceful surroundings. Imagine a luxurious overwater villa with a glass floor that lets you peer down at the reef below, or a private pool that you can enjoy in complete seclusion. Resorts like OZEN Reserve Bolifushi and Vakkaru Maldives cater to couples looking for luxury, offering everything from sunset cruises to private candlelight dinners, ensuring that every moment is special. Affordable yet Romantic: Budget-Friendly Resorts While the Maldives is known for its ultra-luxury resorts, there are plenty of budget-friendly options that don’t compromise on beauty or romance. You don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a dreamy honeymoon here. Resorts like Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi and Reethi Beach Resort offer affordable packages that include beachfront and overwater villas without the hefty price tag. These resorts often feature all-inclusive packages, which are ideal for couples who want to relax without worrying about extra costs. You’ll still enjoy fantastic dining, exciting water sports, and vibrant marine life, making it possible to have a magical experience without overspending. Whether you choose to snorkel together in crystal-clear waters or stroll hand-in-hand on the beach, these resorts offer a romantic experience at a fraction of the price. A Blend of Luxury and Value For couples who want a bit of both—luxury without the sky-high price tag—there are resorts like Sun Siyam Iru Fushi and Kurumba Maldives. These places offer a mix of affordable rooms and more luxurious options, with activities like dolphin watching, diving, and excursions to local islands. Plus, many of these resorts feature stunning beachfronts, world-class dining, and top-notch amenities, ensuring a memorable stay. Accommodation: Finding Your Perfect Paradise The Maldives is famous for its iconic overwater villas, but they come with a premium price tag. However, whether you opt for an overwater villa, a garden villa or a beachfront bungalow, the experience will be unforgettable. Activities for Honeymooners: More Than Just Beaches While the Maldives is undoubtedly famous for its beaches, there's so much more to do beyond lounging on the sand. Honeymooners can dive into the crystal-clear waters for some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world. Coral reefs teeming with colorful fish, manta rays, and sea turtles await, making it an unforgettable experience for couples who love adventure. Enjoy a private sunset cruise, indulge in a couple’s massage at a world-class spa, or savor a gourmet dinner under the stars on a secluded island. Some resorts even offer unique experiences like outdoor cinemas, private beach picnics, and even underwater dining, where you can eat surrounded by marine life. Practical Tips for Your Maldives Honeymoon Best Time to Visit: The Maldives enjoys a tropical climate year-round, but the best time to visit is during the dry season, from November to April. During this period, you’ll have sunny skies and calm seas—perfect for enjoying the beaches and waters. The wet season, from May to October, tends to bring more rain, but you can often find lower prices during this period. Transfers: Many resorts are located on private islands, which are often accessible by seaplane or speedboat. While these transfers can be an added expense, they’re also part of the adventure. Be sure to check with your resort whether transfers are included in the price or if they come at an additional cost. Visa: The Maldives offers a 30-day free visa on arrival for most nationalities, so no special paperwork is required for a visit. Weather: The Maldives enjoys a warm, tropical climate year-round, with temperatures between 82°F and 88°F (28°C-31°C). While it's generally sunny, occasional rain showers are common during the wet season. Always check the forecast before booking to ensure ideal weather. Conclusion: A Honeymoon You’ll Never Forget A honeymoon in the Maldives is more than just a holiday—it’s an unforgettable experience that will stay with you long after you leave. Whether you're seeking luxury and privacy in an adults-only resort or a budget-friendly escape with plenty of adventure, the Maldives offers something for every couple. With its breathtaking beauty, crystal-clear waters, and world-class resorts, the Maldives is the perfect destination to start your life together.

Morocco is a country of rich traditions, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cultures, but beyond the usual tourist spots lies a side of Morocco shaped by the strength and resilience of its women. For those seeking a unique and transformative experience, Intrepid Travel's Women’s Expedition offers just that—an empowering adventure through some of Morocco’s most remote regions, where women play an essential role in preserving heritage and driving change. A Sisterhood of 12 Fabulous Women: One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey was the group of 12 women from diverse backgrounds. Some were extroverts eager to connect, while others preferred to take things in at their own pace. Regardless of our differences, we quickly bonded and formed a supportive, harmonious sisterhood. From day one, it was clear that this group of women would become lifelong friends, sharing stories and experiences that went far beyond the trip. Our Team: Our adventure was made even more unforgettable by the incredible team who supported us throughout. Mama Bia, our female guide, was one of the first women to lead treks in the M'Goun Valley. Her deep knowledge of the mountains and her personal stories brought the landscape to life. The team also included Mohammed, Nadia, and Malika—who made sure we were well-fed and entertained during the hike. Their warmth and dedication ensured we had everything we needed, from delicious meals to lively evening entertainment. Hanane, our Intrepid guide who offered us beautiful henna tattoos and guided us through cultural practices. She played an integral role in making us feel welcome and connected to the traditions of the region. Starting in Marrakech: The journey began in Marrakech, the vibrant heart of Morocco. After a welcome briefing, we explored Djemaa el-Fna, the famous square in the Medina, where street performers and food vendors set the stage for our Moroccan adventure. For those arriving early, the Majorelle Gardens and Koutoubia Mosque offer a more tranquil introduction to the city. Journeying to Bou Tharar: From Marrakech, we travelled into the Atlas Mountains, stopping at Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its mudbrick ksar, which has appeared in films like Lawrence of Arabia. After exploring the site, we had lunch at a women’s cooperative restaurant, where over 40 women prepared the most delicious tagine I’ve ever tasted. We spent the night in the remote village of Bou Tharar, staying at Gite d’Etape Tamaloute. The guesthouse, set against a backdrop of hills, offered a serene environment to disconnect and recharge before our hiking adventure. Hiking the M'Goun Valley: The true adventure began the next day as we set off on a four-day trek through the stunning M'Goun Valley with Mama Bia. Her intimate knowledge of the landscape made every step of the journey more meaningful. Along the way, we encountered local women and children, gaining insight into their lives and the role women play in preserving Moroccan traditions. We were also joined by our cooking team—Nadia and Malika—who prepared meals over campfires and provided entertainment during the evenings. The food was a highlight of the trip, with fresh, local ingredients turned into mouthwatering tagines, bread, and couscous. Cooking and Cultural Immersion: One of the trip’s highlights was learning to cook traditional Moroccan dishes. In Agouti Village, we joined local women for a couscous cooking demonstration, learning the techniques that turn this iconic dish into a labour of love. We also had the chance to watch women bake khobz (Moroccan flatbread), which paired perfectly with our tagines. In Amejgag, we participated in a weaving workshop, learning an ancient craft that’s passed down through generations. The village offered stunning views of the surrounding hills and the chance to connect with local women who were eager to share their skills. Music, Dance, and Henna Tattoos: The journey was also filled with music and dance. In Issoumar, we participated in a traditional evening of music with local women. It wasn’t a formal performance, but rather a cultural exchange where we sang, danced, and learned the significance of the songs. Hanane was also there, giving us beautiful henna tattoos, adding a personal touch to the cultural exchange. A Wedding Celebration: One of the most unforgettable moments occurred during our return to Bou Tharar, where local women dressed us in traditional Moroccan attire for an impromptu Amazigh-style wedding celebration. Despite feeling out of my comfort zone, I embraced the lively celebration, which included music, dancing, and plenty of laughter. Back to Marrakech: After saying goodbye to our amazing team, we headed back to Marrakech for one final dinner with Zineb, a local businesswoman whose story of perseverance inspired us all. The evening concluded with a performance by The Houariyates, an all-female music band that celebrates the strength and power of women. The band’s music spoke of sensuality, love, and longing—a perfect way to honour the women we met along the way. A Journey of Empowerment: I was fortunate enough to take part in this female-only adventure, and it was a life-changing experience. The trip gave me the chance to reflect on my own life while learning from the incredible women I met throughout Morocco. It also reignited my passion for slow travel—moving beyond the tourist traps and immersing myself in the culture, food, and traditions of a place. This journey isn’t just about visiting Morocco—it’s about connecting with women from different walks of life, learning new skills, and experiencing the beauty of a culture that has so much to offer. For those seeking an adventure that goes beyond sightseeing, this female-only expedition is an empowering opportunity to grow, learn, and build lifelong friendships. I’m already planning my next adventure—this time in India. If you're interested in joining me, feel free to reach out! To wrap up an unforgettable week, we decided to add something truly special: a sunrise hot-air balloon ride. It was hands down one of the most beautiful experiences I've ever had. The tranquility of the flight was incredibly soothing, and the views were simply breathtaking. What a way to end an amazing week!

This past Christmas and New Year were spent basking in the beauty of the tropical paradise, of Mauritius. After enduring a soggy Christmas in Cornwall the previous year, we made a unanimous decision to head somewhere warmer for Christmas 2023. The choice was crystal clear - The Zilwa Attitude in Mauritius, a decision made after poring over a PowerPoint presentation of enticing options back in January 2023. Fast forward 11 months, and on the 23rd of December 2023, we embarked on a direct Air Mauritius flight from London Gatwick, spanning just under 12.5 hours. The flight was bustling with activity, with some attempts at sleep, albeit limited. The impeccable service and above-average plane food made the journey more enjoyable. Upon landing in Mauritius, the swift immigration process and prompt luggage arrival set the tone for a seamless start. Our transfer company efficiently transported us to the Zilwa Attitude, and the view that greeted us at the reception was nothing short of breathtaking. The Zilwa Attitude proved to be an impeccable choice, with outstanding food, service, rooms, and amenities. While it might be more suitable for couples during term time, the holiday period saw families enjoying the resort. Our dining experience at Zilwa Attitude was nothing short of amazing. The culinary choices were truly diverse, with a buffet that featured a vast array of options, each night boasting a different theme. In addition to the buffet, the hotel offered four speciality restaurants, and we were pleased to find that securing reservations was a hassle-free process. To ensure we didn't miss out on any culinary delights, we opted to prebook our first week's reservations before arriving. Among the standout dining experiences was The Lor Disab, an adult-only à la carte restaurant situated right on the beach. The setting was picturesque, and the food surpassed expectations, earning a solid 5-star rating in our book. For breakfast, we enjoyed the main buffet restaurant, which offered something for everyone. Lunches served buffet-style on the beach or at the à la carte snack bar, provided delightful options. And for those looking for something extra, a Mauritian snack bar served fabulous samosas, while from 4 pm onward, a delightful crepe bar catered to our post-lunch cravings. The dining options at Zilwa Attitude were not only abundant but also of high quality, ensuring that our culinary journey was a memorable aspect of our stay. The variety, the scenic locations, and the attention to detail in each dining venue contributed to an exceptional dining experience at the hotel. Some memorable highlights of our trip included exploring Gran Zil, a picturesque island reachable by swimming, walking, or a short boat ride for a delightful barbecue lunch. The Catamaran cruise, though an additional charge, offered a day filled with adventures, including an entertaining crew and a cautionary note about the potent vitamin juice! The festive season at Zilwa Attitude was nothing short of magical - from the Christmas Eve Gala Dinner to the New Year's Eve Entertainment, topped off with a visit from Father Christmas on his horse. Exploring the Wonders of Mauritius Our days in Mauritius were brimming with excitement as we explored the island's numerous attractions. Some standout experiences include witnessing the sunset at Grand Baie, the nearest village to Zilwa. The village boasts craft shops, designer clothes shops, bars, and restaurants, creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening by the ocean. A speedboat ride to Ile Aux Cerfs, a breathtaking island frequented by speedboats and catamarans, was another highlight. Snorkelling in the crystal-clear waters, followed by a visit to the Grand River waterfall and a beachside barbecue, made for a perfect day in paradise. Don't forget the mosquito cream for this adventure! Casela Park, a safari park with added activities, added a touch of adventure to our trip. Opting for a guided quadbike tour, we had the chance to get up close with zebras, ostriches, and even a giraffe. Thrill Mountain offered an adrenaline-pumping experience, with a nerve-wracking Nepalese bridge crossing and a zip line over a gorge. Our catamaran trip from Zilwa was a fusion of relaxation and excitement, featuring snorkelling stops, a refreshing swim in the Mangroves, and a delicious lunch on the boat. The day culminated with an exploration of Ile aux Bernaches, complete with flowing drinks, lively tunes, and some unforgettable dance moves on the return journey. In essence, Mauritius is a paradise waiting to be explored, with its stunning beaches and welcoming locals. Despite the flight time, the island's myriad attractions make it a destination well worth the journey.

Our first long-haul trip without the kids My husband and I found ourselves in that glorious position of being able to go on holiday on our own. The children are all grown up and left home, so this would obviously mean it will be super cheap. So we thought ?? ……………… We started our holiday search with a few days in the Canary Islands to a week in Greece and we ended up booking ten nights in Antigua. We went in November 2022; it was less expensive than December due to the weather being a little up and down. We decided on the Royalton Hotel. It had plenty of bars and restaurants a beautiful private beach, only a 30-minute transfer and entertainment in the evening if we felt like joining in. We always go somewhere with a gym and fitness classes. I always take my gym clothes, which seem to be the only ones that come back clean! The hotel overlooks a bay and the sea, so we reserved a room at the end of floor 6 with a partial view of the bay and a sea view. As the holiday was fast approaching, I went on my annual diet to try and lose a little weight to put it back on whilst in Antigua. My husband and I started our holiday countdown a week before, by drinking wine on school nights and convincing ourselves that takeaways were the best option so we could avoid going shopping and wasting food. All the weight I lost as normal was back on before we left the UK ???? On arrival at the resort, we were met with beautiful smiles, a well-deserved cocktail and headed down to the beach. The beach was beautiful, the bay was calm and the views were stunning. The most important part of our holidays is always the food! We had a selection of restaurants to choose from: The buffet restaurant – standard buffet serving pizza, salads, and pasta and each evening would have a theme. The seafood restaurant- not much seafood but the food was lovely, and the menu was varied. Caribbean restaurant – this was my favourite; I had some excellent fish with delightful Caribbean flavours. Italian Restaurant – we were given some lovely focaccia with oil and vinegar to start, and the pasta was perfect. Steak restaurant – this was always the busiest restaurant. We did not try it but judging by the number of people queuing; we presumed it was good. Coffee shop – excellent for your first coffee of the day; they also served pastries. Sports bar and grill – serving American fast food. So there are plenty of places to choose from. But, unfortunately, you could only prebook if you were a Diamond Club member. You had to arrive and wait for a table, but they operated a buzzer system, so we could go for a drink while we waited. We managed to get into all the restaurants we wanted to try with no more than an hour’s wait. The Italian and Caribbean restaurants overlooked the bay and were the perfect setting for a romantic dinner for two. Where did we visit? We met a lovely man named Frenchie on the beach who sold us a wonderful Catamaran 360-degree circumnavigation tour of the island. We stopped for some amazing snorkelling opportunities, ate some fantastic food and did a good job polishing off the rum punch. The boat was not overcrowded, the staff were friendly, and the views were stunning. Frenchie also told us about the Antiguan Independence Day event. We took a taxi down to the event; we watched some cricket walked around the vast array of food stalls, and decided on freshly grilled lobster. The event continued into the evening with live music and a big party. I highly recommend it to everyone visiting Antigua at this time, even if you do not like cricket. The atmosphere was amazing. Unfortunately, the weather was not kind to us, so we could not visit the Sunday night barbeque up at Shirley Heights. There is live music, food and a beautiful sunset. I will definitely be going on my next visit. We had a lovely holiday and a few wet days, but it did not ruin it for us. I do not enjoy the going home part of any holiday. However, I suggest you try the sushi at the airport. It was the best Sushi I have ever tasted??
