CENTRAL GREECE PART 2
After our stay in ITEA we headed further west, a journey of 3hours took us to MYTIKAS for our 2nd part of the holiday. Going via Etoloakarnania made the journey most interesting, winding country roads with hardly any cars in sight and amazing scenery and views.
Mytikas is built on a pointed piece of land protruding into the waters of the Ionian Sea, on the west coast of Acarnania, between Astakos and Vonitsa and is considered as a unique travel suggestion for anyone wanting tranquility and relaxation.
The village is quiet and laid back, with just a couple of shops but has a variety of restaurants most of them right by the sea. It also has a lovely small harbour & a main beach as well as being surrounded by quite a few beaches.
It looks towards the nearby islands Kastos and Kalamos which can be visited by water-taxi, or by car and only 40 minutes away you can easily access Lefkada which is another beautiful Greek island – but connected by a bridge so easy to drive across to. Many of my clients love Lefkada ( also known as Lefkas ) – we stayed in Nidri many years ago.
From Mytikas we visited Astakos another small resort with just one hotel and very low key & also visited Vonitsa which was bigger with a castle, shops & a huge beach – not known much to the UK market but Greeks & other Europeans holiday here.
When we weren’t out and about we found small quiet beaches and just relaxed in the shade as it was super hot this year!
Roll on our next Greek adventure.
