A Family Holiday to Alicante: Sun, Sea & Villa Living

Vicki Thompson on 15 May 2025
Alicante is the perfect destination for a family holiday, offering beautiful beaches, rich history, and a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere. This year, we decided to swap a hotel stay for a private villa—and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made! Here’s a look at our family trip to Alicante, what we got up to, and why we recommend villa stays for families.

Why We Chose a Villa Over a Hotel

For this trip, we opted for a villa instead of a hotel, and it made all the difference. With young children, having our own space meant we could enjoy a more relaxed schedule, cook our own meals, and take advantage of private amenities like a pool and garden. It also gave us the freedom to explore Alicante at our own pace, without worrying about hotel restrictions or crowded pool areas.

Things to See and Do in Alicante

Alicante is packed with activities for all ages. Here are some of the highlights from our trip:

Santa Bárbara Castle – Sitting high above the city, this medieval fortress offers stunning panoramic views. The kids loved exploring the ancient walls and learning about the history of the area.

Postiguet Beach – A fantastic spot for family-friendly beach days. The shallow waters, golden sand, and nearby restaurants made it an easy and enjoyable day out.

Tabarca Island – A short boat ride away, this charming island was a real adventure. We spent the day snorkelling, exploring the tiny village, and enjoying delicious seafood.

Explanada de España – One of Alicante’s most iconic spots, this beautiful promenade lined with palm trees was perfect for an evening stroll and some delicious ice cream.

Terra Mítica Theme Park – Located just outside Alicante in Benidorm, this theme park provided a fun-filled day with rides and attractions suitable for all ages.

Food & Dining in Alicante

Alicante’s food scene was another highlight of our trip. With a mix of authentic Spanish cuisine and family-friendly dining, we had some fantastic meals, including:

Paella by the sea – You can’t visit Alicante without trying its famous seafood paella. We found a great restaurant by the beach that served up a delicious and authentic version.

Churros con chocolate – A sweet treat the kids couldn’t get enough of!

Tapas & local delicacies – We loved sampling different tapas dishes, from patatas bravas to jamón ibérico.

Would We Go Back? Absolutely!

Alicante ticked all the boxes for a perfect family holiday. With stunning beaches, historic sites, delicious food, and the comfort of a private villa, it was an unforgettable experience. Staying in a villa gave us the flexibility and privacy we needed, making our trip stress-free and enjoyable for the whole family.

If you’re considering a family holiday to Alicante, I’d highly recommend looking into a villa stay for that extra comfort and convenience. Need help planning your next trip? Get in touch, and I’d be happy to help you find the perfect getaway! ????
