Oceania Vista: A Foodie’s Journey from Lisbon to Southampton

My personal experience on board Oceania Vista

Read on for my first-hand experience on board the beautiful Oceania Vista and who Oceania is perfect for.

If you love the idea of waking up in a new destination, dining on food that rivals your favourite restaurants at home, and returning each evening to a calm, beautifully designed ship, then Oceania Vista might just be your perfect match. I recently had the opportunity to sail on this stunning ship from Lisbon back to Southampton on a FAM trip, and it gave me a real feel for what my cruise clients can expect on board.

Oceania is a luxury cruise line with a simple but brilliant ethos: spend less time at sea and more time in port, while delivering elevated luxury through beautifully designed accommodation, refined on-board facilities, attentive personal service and, of course, exceptional food.

My journey on Vista began in Lisbon and took me back to Southampton, and from the moment I stepped on board I was struck by how elegant and thoughtfully designed this ship is. She really is a beautiful vessel.

My Concierge Veranda Stateroom

I stayed in a Concierge Veranda Stateroom and it did not disappoint. Every stateroom on Vista has its own veranda, so there are no inside cabins at all. Waking up to natural light and a private outdoor space made the experience feel instantly more luxurious.

The stateroom itself exuded comfort and space, with a calm, contemporary design and lots of clever storage. Thoughtful touches made a real difference:

  • My own reusable water bottle waiting in the room
  • A welcome bottle of fizz
  • A well‑stocked mini‑bar
  • Complimentary Aquamar Spa-branded toiletries that felt suitably indulgent

Choosing Concierge level added some lovely extra benefits too. I had access to an exclusive Concierge Lounge, a quiet spot to relax or grab refreshments, and the Spa Terrace within the Aquamar Spa, which was spectacular: a serene area with loungers and whirlpools where it was very easy to lose track of time.

Space, Calm and Effortless Service

One of the biggest surprises about my time on Vista was just how spacious the ship felt. Even on sea days it never felt crowded. There were always plenty of sun loungers available, indoor spaces never felt busy or noisy, and I never had to queue for long to be served at bars or dining venues.

That sense of space created a very relaxed atmosphere on board. Paired with friendly, efficient service, it made everything feel effortless, from grabbing a coffee to settling in for a leisurely lunch.

A True "Foodie" Cruise

I boarded Vista with high expectations for the food, and those expectations were absolutely met.

I was fortunate to dine in two of the speciality restaurants: Toscana and Polo Grill. Speciality dining is included in your cruise fare, which is a real highlight, and I would absolutely recommend reserving tables in advance.

  • Toscana: An elegant Italian restaurant with beautifully presented dishes and rich, authentic flavours.
  • Polo Grill: A classic steakhouse with generous portions, superbly cooked meat and indulgent sides.

Both experiences felt like dining in a high‑end restaurant on land rather than being “on a ship”, which is exactly what many foodie clients are looking for.

I also dined in the Grand Dining Room, which was a treat in itself. The setting is refined, the menus are varied, and the service is attentive without being intrusive.

Oceania is known as the “foodie cruise” line and, in my experience, it genuinely lives up to that reputation. There are so many dining options to choose from, both during the day and in the evening, that you are constantly spoiled for choice, whether you want a relaxed bite or a more formal multi‑course meal.

Who Oceania Is Perfect For

From my time on board, I would say Oceania is ideal for travellers who value quality over gimmicks. Foodies will love the variety and standard of the cuisine, from relaxed daytime bites to elegant speciality dining. Couples will appreciate the sophisticated, grown‑up atmosphere and the abundance of quiet spaces to unwind together. It also works brilliantly for solo travellers who want a stylish yet friendly environment, with plenty of places to sit with a book, enjoy a drink at the bar or join in with low‑key social activities without ever feeling overwhelmed by crowds. If you enjoy polished service, beautifully presented food and a calm, contemporary setting, Oceania will feel very much like home at sea.
