Olu Deniz: Turquoise Coast Dreams, Paragliding Thrills and Lazy Lagoon Days!
Tucked into Turkey’s stunning Turquoise Coast, Olu Deniz is one of those rare places that manages to be both heart thumpingly exciting and utterly laid back. With its famous Blue Lagoon, pine clad mountains and shimmering bays, it is a brilliant choice for couples, friends and families who want sunshine with a side of adventure. When I went to Olu Deniz I stayed at the Montebello Resort on all inclusive basis for 12 nights . It is in a good location around a 10 minute walk down to the seafront.
Although fairly basic, I loved this hotel and would definitely stay here again. It has standard and some newer swim-up rooms, a lovely main pool and a smaller pool with waterslides and a good choice of all inclusive food and drinks.
The hotel had entertainment on most evenings but we preferred to walk down to the ‘main strip’ with lots of restaurants, bars and rooftop bars where you can sit and watch the paragliders still drifting down at sunset. Olu Deniz is full of shops …. So many of them selling fake designer wear!
Here are some of the things we did during our stay here! ….
Turkish Bath (hammam): At the hotel, we had a Turkish bath (hammam) right at the start of our holiday, in hopes of the deep exfoliation of skin giving us all a longer lasting tan! …. Followed by a gorgeous massage and Turkish apple tea.
The Blue Lagoon: We spent the day here on the edge of Olu Deniz. We swam in the bluest waters and hired paddleboards and kayaks as the water was so still. If you decide to visit just research the best areas to visit and one side of the lagoon is nicer than the other.
Paragliding over Olu Deniz: A few of us did a tandem flight with a pilot! We launched from the summit of Babadağ Mountain and glided out over the sea and cliffs and over the Blue Lagoon. The views were breathtaking and although I am so glad I did it I an not too sure if I would do it again!
Boat Trip around the bays and Islands: We took a boat trip for the day. We sailed the coast, into caves and stopped at Butterfly Valley, a steep‑sided gorge opening onto a white‑pebble beach, with swim stops in quiet bays, on‑board lunch and time to sunbathe on deck. I always try to do a boat trip wherever I go as I love them!
Quad Biking: Some of us did quad biking along dusty mountain trails and through the pine forests with views of the coast over the cliffs.
The Olive Garden Kabak: This place was recommended to me by a client. It is around a 30 minute drive from Olu Deniz and …. Wow! …. It is so worth it! It is a scenic cliffside hotel and restaurant set in rustic grounds with olive trees, swings and beds, with an infinity pool with the most amazing views overlooking Kabak Bay in Fethiye. If you are visiting for the day and eat in their restaurant, they allow you to use the facilities and pool for the day. They have wooden cabins you can book to stay in. There was talk of them maybe only letting hotel guests use the pool in the future so if I go back to Olu Deniz I would definitely book to stay for the night to experience the hotel and gardens at night.
I loved Olu Deniz. I felt it had almost a Mediterranean feel, while still very much retaining its Turkish character. I would definitely stay here again in the future.
Who Is Olu Deniz Perfect For? Couples seeking a mix of relaxation and activities, Friends’ getaways where boat trips, beach clubs and bars are high on the wish‑list of families with children who will love the water activities.
