The Joy of Motorhome Travel
As I write this, I am sitting in my motorhome, in a field at a festival in Lincolnshire. I love the cosiness of being in a motorhome. It’s camping, with more luxury i.e. I have access to the internet, so I can keep on working, we have hot and cold running water and if it turns cold, we can put the heating on.
That being said when you travel further afield, you have the luxury of choosing where you want to go. Europe has sites all over that allow you to park up, in a safe location normally costing 10 or 15 Euros, sometimes you can find places for free. There are several apps that you can use to help you find places.
When we toured Ireland in 2022, we planned to do 4 weeks, touring around the coast. We quickly realised it was not going to be long enough, so we extended it to 5 weeks, then it became 7 weeks. Don’t get me wrong it was when my wife, Madeleine and I had taken a sabbatical from working and had planned to travel.
But that is the beauty of motorhome travel, you are not tide to where you need to be or the destination you need to go to, see a sign go and explore, fancy that restaurant you just past, park up for the night and make a reservation. If you have hired a van, the only thing you have to consider is getting it back on time. When we planned to go to Greece last year, we had 4 weeks…are you seeing a pattern forming? We appreciated we would not make it without some serious driving hours and I didn’t want that to be the memory of our holiday, so instead, we stopped heading for Greece and started exploring the areas we were in (You can read about that trip in my blog on my website). We ended up in Alsace, France. Now Madeleine and I had been to France several times, especially before Covid but we had always headed to Dordogne or South West regions. So by shear luck we stopped to explore the area of Colmar, Strasbourg, the Maginot line and a WW1 memorial called Hartsmannwilomkopf. A very poignant place to visit.
Now, perhaps I’ve convinced you that your next holiday should be a motorhome or campervan adventure. But maybe you’re thinking: “That sounds like a lot of planning. How do I pick up a van abroad? What about bedding and cooking gear?”
That’s where I come in. As your Travel Counsellor, I can arrange the entire journey—your flights, hotels, transfers, and, of course, your fully equipped motorhome or campervan. My trusted suppliers handle everything, from bedding to cookware, so you can simply arrive and start your adventure.
And if you’d like something truly memorable, I can make that happen too—whether it’s staying on a working ranch in Wyoming or sleeping under the stars in New Zealand.
All it takes is a conversation about what you’d love to experience. I’ll take care of the rest.
