Repositioning & Transatlantic Cruises
How about taking a transatlantic repositioning cruise, as a low cost way to travel between the US and the UK?
Repositioning cruises can be an absolute bargain, especially when comparing the cruise cost with the price of transatlantic flights for a family of 4.
Repositioning voyages are a great way to try out a ship and all its facilities, often at a time when the ship is less crowded. Or why not use it as a chance to try an upgraded cabin type, at the price you would usually pay for a lower grade on a more traditional itinerary? I love a spa cabin on a transatlantic, with all those sea days to use the serene facilities.
How about taking a two week voyage from Southampton to the USA, perhaps calling at a few European or Caribbean ports on the way? These longer voyages can make excellent standalone holidays, or can be used as part of an extended US trip.
Or how about a week at Walt Disney World, followed by a two week cruise home from Florida? With only a one-way air fare required it may even work out cheaper than a typical Florida trip (return flights, a week at the theme parks and a week or two on the beach in a villa or hotel).
A transatlantic voyage would give plenty of time to rest and recuperate after a busy week in the parks, with the chance to visit a few other destinations on the way home. The Azores and Madeira are common ports of call on these itineraries.
These repositioning cruises are most common in spring or autumn when ships are relocating between Europe (summer) and the Caribbean (winter). Especially good for families if they tie up with Easter holiday dates or October half term.
