Skiing in the sunshine

Planning your first Ski Holiday

When you’re planning your first ski holiday there is so much to think about and that is exactly what I am here to help with

When you’re planning your first ski holiday there are lots of things to think about.

First, lets start with the Resort

How do you decide which resort to go to? Well this is a big question and actually one of the best reasons to use a travel advisor so they can advise on where is best!

But you need to think about the time of year - if you are going early or late season then you want to be nice and high or even on a glacier. If you are planning to use a creche or ski school then you need to know where has the best options for your children’s ages. Some ski schools will take them from 3, some creches don’t take them until they’ve over 2.

Also, you need to consider your groups’ ability - if you are all nervous beginners do not book a resort with red and black runs down to the village.

What about the village is important to you? If you are going to eat out every night then you need to be in a village with lots of restaurants. Some of my clients prefer to be in more purpose built resort so they can ski back to their apartment and others prefer a driver service and being able to drink in local bars.

Back to lessons…

If you’re a family learning to ski all together it is very important you get some good ski lessons, if your children are older you could do this all together as a group lesson

Many of my clients would book their children into mornings and themselves into a private lesson. If you are active people you should be able to pick it up quite quickly but it is best to discuss this with me so I can advise accordingly. Even if you’ve skied before, lessons can still be a good way of getting rid pf bad habits and feeling safe on the mountain. They also show you the best places to ski in the valley even if you only do it for a couple of hours.

It doesn’t have to be a really expensive hobby, there are compromises you can make to bring costs down. I would recommend if it is your first time, hiring your clothing and equipment to see whether you like it first! There are lots of amazing ski clothing hiring brands now in London. Definitely look on vented for children’s clothes and ask in local parent groups. Size up in some where you can and they can last for next season too. Layer up is also important and you can buy lots of cheaper thermals that still work really well for kids. But don’t skimp on cheap gloves as they touch every piece of snow if they’re anything like my kids!!

As you can see there is lots to think about when planning a ski trip, whether its your first or you’ve been skiing all your life I would always suggest using a travel advisor like me who knows the mountains and has the best contacts out there. Get a call booked in with me to start planning for next season.
