The Whizz around Oz
Australia
It’s easy to make a case for visiting Australia.
Family and friends ‘living the dream’ are not uncommon and they form a very good foundation for deciding to visit (whilst using that spare room they have for a few days!).
Guilty as charged! I have a large family and friend base between Sydney and Brisbane and I’ve been there more than a couple of times over the years.
However, my own extensive knowledge of this country didn’t come from hanging around loved ones for the duration of my trip. I got out and explored this vast country, but with one very important caveat in mind: How much time do I have?
You can explore Australia on a whole range of budgets, but ‘time’ is your most important commodity, due to the sheer size of the country. When your holiday destination is approximately 32 times the size of the UK, it’s important to focus on what is achievable rather than trying to do too much.
For some recent clients, they had this very conundrum. Once I’d matched the perfect flights for them, they had a total of 12 nights to do as much as possible between Sydney and Cairns. A total of 2,648km or the equivalent of driving from Land’s End to John o’Groats - twice! Although keen walkers, their biggest request was that they really wanted to do a 'road trip’ to see the beauty of the east Australian coastline.
The solution focused on getting a balance of the ‘must sees’, walking, driving and having fun! 4 nights in Sydney gives them the opportunity to see a certain bridge and opera house, then jumping on a Manly Ferry to recreate a sense of what Cook must have felt like when he first entered that incredible harbour. Experiencing marsupials and spending some time in the Blue Mountains, a mecca for walkers from around the world, are also in place.
Next, it’s a flight to Brisbane (that’s 900km of driving removed!) and the freedom of driving their very own campervan for the rest of the journey:
Will they stop in Bundaberg to sample the famous rum? Maybe. Will they hop over to the world's largest sand island, K’gari? More than likely. Are they sleeping overnight on a pontoon on the Great Barrier Reef? Definitely! It’s all organised.
I don’t just book holidays.... I create them, and I’d love to help you too.
