“Three Generations of Magic: Our Disney Fantasy Getaway”

Deana Bourne on 01 Nov 2025

There’s something timeless about Disney — it brings out the kid in all of us.

This November, I had the absolute joy of sailing aboard the Disney Fantasy with my daughter and my two five-year-old granddaughters. What awaited us was a long weekend filled with laughter, princesses, and plenty of pixie dust. It wasn’t just a cruise — it was a chance to create cherished memories across three generations, surrounded by Disney magic on the open sea.

💡 Top Tip: Download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App — it’s your best friend for daily schedules, character meet-and-greet times, and all onboard activities.

Embarkation Magic

After parking portside in Southampton and dropping off our luggage (which magically reappeared outside our stateroom later), it was time to board the Disney Fantasy. As we stepped aboard, our family name was announced to a warm welcome of cheers, applause — and our first magical sighting of Donald and Daisy Duck! Art Nouveau in style, the Disney Fantasy is graceful and elegant, scattered with stunning peacock and butterfly motifs.

💡 Top Tip: Pack your Disney accessories and any first-day essentials in your hand luggage so you’re ready for fun the moment you step aboard!

Sailing Away in Style

We enjoyed lunch at Animator’s Palate, explored the decks, and settled into our beautiful stateroom. By the time the Sail-Away Celebration began, we were already dancing with Goofy and waving goodbye to dry land. Dinner on Disney Cruise Line operates on a rotational dining system, giving us the chance to experience multiple themed restaurants. Our wonderful servers, Leo and Maria, followed us to each venue, ensuring a familiar and friendly face every night. The children’s menus were already waiting at the table, and every dietary request was effortlessly catered for — a dream for families.

💡 Top Tip: No need to budget for soft drinks, tea, or coffee in restaurants or buffets — they’re all included!

Our Home at Sea

Our balcony stateroom was perfect for our family setup — a comfortable double bed, a sofa that converted into a single bed, and a pull-down bunk. Our cheerful attendant, Romeo, kept everything spotless and perfectly arranged. With ample wardrobe space, USB ports, mirrors, a sitting area, TV, and elegant furnishings, we felt right at home. The split bathroom (one with a bath/shower, one with a toilet) came stocked with quality toiletries — shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, and fluffy white towels. You can safely pack light!

💡 Top Tip: Bring both US and European-style adapter plugs for your devices.

Endless Fun for All Ages

There’s truly never a dull moment on board. Families can enjoy Broadway-style shows such as Aladdin and Frozen, live music, deck parties, and of course, the AquaDuck — a thrilling water coaster that twists over the side of the ship! Little ones will love Nemo’s Reef splash area and the amazing kids’ clubs, while adults can unwind in the spa, lounges, bars or indulge in fine dining at Palo (Italian) and Remy (French), both for guests aged 18+ (at an additional cost)

💡 Top Tip: Don’t pack pool towels — they’re provided in all splash zones.

Disney Details That Delight

Everywhere you look, Disney’s attention to detail shines — from self-serve soft ice cream on deck to magical portholes in inside staterooms displaying real-time ocean views. Artwork, themed carpets, golden thrones, and even the crockery reflect that signature Disney storytelling touch. You’ll hear classic Disney tunes on the ship’s horns, and families will appreciate complimentary flotation vests for children in all pools and slides.

💡 Top Tip: No need for cash on board! All purchases are conveniently charged to your account in US dollars.

Cast Members: The Heart of the Magic

I must give a special mention to the Cast Members — the heart and soul of the Disney experience. Every single crew member we met was kind, cheerful, and genuinely caring. My granddaughters’ faces lit up during character meets, and the Cast Members went above and beyond to make them feel like real princesses. Hearing “Princesses in the house!” as they walked by in their favourite Disney dresses was pure joy.

💡 Top Tip: Gratuities are pre-paid on your onboard account, but it’s a lovely idea to carry some cash for optional tips — for porters, room service, or any crew who go the extra mile.

Final Thoughts

It’s probably clear by now — I’m officially a Disney Cruise convert! If you’ve ever considered taking a Disney Cruise with your children or grandchildren, do it. The service, entertainment, and attention to detail create a once-in-a-lifetime experience that truly brings families closer together.

And just a little footnote: while Disney is famous for family fun, these cruises are magical for all ages — from couples to solo travellers. There really is something for everyone.
