A Day To Remember: Wimbledon Men's Final Day 2025 (with my Mum)
Growing up in th 80's I always remember the world coming to a halt when Wimbledon was on in our house, my Mum would even set the TV up in the garden if the weather was nice, and we would have to entertain ourselves for a while while the match was being played. She has always said she would love to go, so when the opportunity arose through Newmarket Holidays, I knew what I had to do.
We arrived first thing and mum was completely blown away from the minute we walked through the gates, her dream had come true! I on the other hand was hurrying everyone up to get on the resale list and try to get tickets on Centre Court for her. I have to say at this point the staff were unbelievably helpful, kind and welcoming, and when I explained it was our first visit they couldn't do enough to help and enhance our day. We even got a short tour of Centre Court by a lovely gentleman, and had our photos taken by the world class court.
We had tickets for Court 1 which had a great atmosphere and was host to the boys final, doubles final and wheelchair event. Unfortunately we missed the latter because we'd been informed that Carlos Alcaraz would be warming up on Court 14 ahead of the final, so we hot footed it over and sure enough there he was in all his glory! The buzz was electric ahead of the final, and you could feel the energy just watching him practice.
It was a scorchingly hot day, one of those classic British days we all dream about during the winter, and Henman Hill was at capacity long before the final began. 4000 people were squeezed onto it, so we opted to watch the final on a screen from the comfort of our seats on Court 1 with a Pimms to cool us down.
Whilst we didn't see many celebrities (Tom Cruise was on Centre Court and I was desperate to see him...but didn't!) the brilliant Vernon Kay, who works with us at our annual conference, did pass by so it was nice to see a familiar face amongst the sea of tennis fans.
The whole day was incredible from start to finish! The atmosphere, the tradition, the people, but most of all sharing it with my Mum after she'd waited so patiently for 5 decades. She loved it and so did I, so much so that we've booked again for 2026 and who knows, I might even get to meet Tom next time!
