A Blissful Girls’ Escape to Mykonos: Pool Days, Sunset Cocktails & Island Adventures

Dona Kirkham on 09 May 2026

There are some places that just feel made for a girls’ getaway, and Mykonos is absolutely one of them. I have just returned from a four–night break with friends, flying from Manchester with EasyJet, and I am still mentally by the pool with a cocktail in hand. We based ourselves in Mykonos Town at the beautiful Mr & Mrs Smith: My Mykonos, staying on a bed and breakfast basis, and it turned out to be the perfect setting for a chilled, luxurious escape.

Checking in: Our Chic Base in Mykonos Town...

From the moment we arrived at Mr & Mrs Smith: My Mykonos, it felt like we had stepped into a little haven. Think fresh whitewashed walls, stylish interiors and a calm, grown-up atmosphere that instantly puts you in holiday mode.

Waking up each morning to a lovely breakfast, knowing the biggest decisions of the day were “pool or town?” and “Greek or Italian tonight?” was exactly the reset we all needed. The location in Mykonos Town meant we had the best of both worlds: peaceful, lazy days by the pool and lively evenings just a short wander away.

Lazy Days by the Pool...

Our days quickly fell into a wonderfully slow rhythm. After breakfast, we drifted to the pool, claimed our sun loungers and simply unwound.

Time seemed to slow down in the best possible way:

  • Lounging in the sun with a book
  • Cooling off with the occasional dip in the pool
  • Chatting for hours without watching the clock

The hotel’s relaxed, boutique feel made it easy to truly switch off. There was no rush, no schedule, just sunshine, great company and that lovely feeling of knowing you have nowhere else you need to be.

Evenings in Mykonos Town: Cobbled Lanes, Cocktails & Cuisine...

As the heat of the day softened, we would get ready at our own pace, then wander into Mykonos Town for the evening. This is where the island really comes into its own.

Mykonos Town is wonderfully atmospheric, with its maze of cobbled streets, whitewashed buildings trimmed with bright blue and pink, and bougainvillea spilling over balconies. We loved simply getting “lost” in the lanes, pausing to browse in chic little boutiques or sit and people-watch.

Food was a big highlight of the trip. We mixed traditional Greek dishes with amazing Italian:

  • Fresh Greek salads, grilled octopus and local seafood
  • Homemade pastas and wood-fired pizzas
  • Shared plates, long conversations and that unhurried Mediterranean dining style

Naturally, cocktails featured most evenings. There is something magical about sipping a drink overlooking the sea, watching the sky blush pink and orange as the sun sets over the harbour and windmills.

The vibe in town felt sophisticated yet relaxed: perfect for a girls’ trip where you want atmosphere and energy without feeling like you are in the middle of a party strip.

Discovering the Whole Island: Our Catamaran Day...

As beautiful as Mykonos Town is, the island has so much more to offer once you head out along the coast. One of the standout moments of our trip was spending a day aboard a catamaran, sailing around the island.

Out on the water, you see a different side to Mykonos:

  • Hidden coves and quiet stretches of coastline
  • Clear, shimmering Aegean water in every shade of blue
  • The chance to swim and snorkel straight from the boat

The pace on board matched the rest of our holiday: unhurried, relaxed and full of laughter. We sunbathed on deck, took endless photos and enjoyed that special sense of freedom that only comes from being out at sea with nowhere urgent to be.

A catamaran or boat day is something I would highly recommend including in any Mykonos itinerary, whether you are travelling with friends, as a couple or celebrating a special occasion. It is the perfect way to appreciate the island as a whole, not just the town.

Why Mykonos Works So Well for a Girls’ Holiday...

Mykonos has a reputation for glamour and nightlife, and while that is certainly there if you want it, our trip showed just how versatile the island can be. For our girls’ break, it ticked all the boxes:

  • Easy travel from the UK: Direct flights from Manchester meant we were poolside not long after landing.
  • Stylish yet relaxed accommodation: Our stay at Mr & Mrs Smith: My Mykonos gave us a chic, comfortable base with that boutique, grown-up feel.
  • Walkable evenings: Being in or close to Mykonos Town meant we could stroll to dinner, bars and shops without needing to think about taxis every night.
  • Fantastic food & cocktails: From traditional tavernas to contemporary restaurants, there is no shortage of places to eat and drink really well.
  • Island exploring: Beach days, boat trips and exploring other parts of the island mean you can do as much or as little as you want.

It is this mix of relaxation, style and gentle buzz that made the trip so special for us.

Who I Would Recommend Mykonos to...

Based on my own recent experience, I would especially recommend Mykonos for:

  • Girls’ getaways: Whether you want total relaxation, some nightlife or a blend of both, Mykonos is ideal.
  • Couples: Boutique hotels, romantic sunsets and beautiful restaurants create a very special setting.
  • Celebrations: Birthdays, hen parties or milestone trips can feel really memorable here, with plenty of opportunities to add special touches like private boat days, beach clubs or fine dining.

It is also very easy to twin Mykonos with another Greek island or a mainland city for a longer multi-centre itinerary, if you want to see more...
