Important Spain Airport Accessibility Update

Travelling to Spain with a Hidden Disability? Here is What You Need to Know

Donna Gilbert on 03 Jun 2026

Passengers travelling through many Spanish airports should be aware of an important accessibility update. Aena now operates its own Invisible Disabilities Badge scheme, which passengers should apply for before travelling to help make their airport journey smoother.

If you or a member of your travelling party uses the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard, there is an important update for travel to Spain.

Many Spanish airports operated by Aena now use their own Invisible Disabilities Badge system. Travellers are encouraged to complete an online form before travel and obtain a PDF badge that can be presented to airport staff when support, understanding or additional time may be needed.

A separate form should be completed for each airport visit, including both arrival and departure journeys.

The scheme currently operates at 20 major Spanish airports including Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, Alicante, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Tenerife and Valencia.
