Why More Travellers Are Choosing a Travel Counsellor Over Booking Online

Donna Gilbert on 15 Mar 2026

Over the last few years, I’ve noticed a shift in how people approach planning their holidays. For a long time, the trend was simple: jump online, search a few websites, compare prices and book everything yourself. It felt quick and easy. But more and more travellers are starting to realise something important. Booking a holiday online and planning the right trip are not the same thing. That’s one of the reasons so many people are choosing to work with a travel counsellor again.

Too Much Choice Isn’t Always a Good Thing

The internet gives us access to thousands of hotels, flights and destinations. While that sounds helpful, it can actually make planning a trip more complicated than it needs to be.

Many travellers spend hours scrolling through reviews, comparing options and trying to work out whether something really is as good as it looks.

This is where a travel counsellor makes a huge difference.

Instead of relying on algorithms and generic listings, you have a real person who understands destinations, knows the difference between good and exceptional hotels, and takes the time to understand what you want from your trip.

Travel Designed Around You

One of the things I enjoy most about my role is getting to know my clients and understanding what makes a holiday special for them.

Some people want complete relaxation in a beautiful setting. Others want adventure, culture or unique experiences they would never find on their own.

Every trip I plan is designed around those preferences.

Whether it’s a luxury escape, a family holiday, a honeymoon or a once-in-a-lifetime journey, the goal is always the same: creating something that feels truly personal.

Support When It Matters Most

Another reason many travellers choose a travel counsellor is peace of mind.

If something changes or unexpected travel disruptions occur, you are not left navigating automated call centres or trying to fix everything yourself.

You have someone who knows your trip and can help quickly.

That kind of support is incredibly valuable, especially when travelling internationally or planning complex itineraries.

A More Personal Way to Plan Travel

For many people, working with a travel counsellor simply feels more enjoyable.

Instead of spending evenings researching flights and hotels, you can share your ideas and let someone experienced bring those ideas to life.

It turns the planning process back into something exciting rather than stressful.

If you’re curious about how this works in practice, I’ve written a guide explaining exactly what a travel counsellor does and how the process works.
