One Week in Sri Lanka: Temples, Tuk-Tuks & Tropical Bliss
🏖️ Day 1–2: Negombo & Passikudah – Coastal Calm and Aerial Views We kicked off our journey in Negombo, staying at the serene and stylish Uga Riva Hotel. Think colonial charm meets tropical elegance—a perfect welcome to Sri Lanka.
From there, we boarded a Cinnamon Air flight to Passikudah, and wow—seeing Sri Lanka from the sky was breathtaking. Lush greenery, winding rivers, and golden coastlines stretched out below us like a living postcard.
At Uga Bay Resort, we spent two blissful nights soaking up the sun, snorkeling with tropical fish (yes, it felt like swimming through Finding Nemo), and chasing sunsets. If you’re an early riser, the sunrises here are pure magic.
🛕 Day 3–4: Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya & Anuradhapura – Ancient Wonders & Epic Feasts Next stop: Anuradhapura, with a detour to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. The temples here are steeped in history—ornate carvings, towering stupas, and a sense of peace that’s hard to describe.
Lunch was a highlight: a tiny local restaurant served us a feast of Sri Lankan curries overlooking lush fields. There was enough food to feed an army, and every bite was bursting with flavor.
Then came Sigiriya—the Lion Rock. Climbing its 200-meter-high summit was both terrifying and exhilarating. I cried at the top (part awe, part vertigo), but the panoramic views made every step worth it.
We spent the night at Uga Ulagalla, arriving late but waking up to a resort that looked like paradise.
🚂 Day 5: Ella – Bridges, Elephants & Mountain Magic The drive to Ella was long but scenic, with elephants spotted along the way. We hopped into tuk-tuks to visit the iconic Nine Arches Bridge, a marvel of colonial engineering nestled in the jungle.
Our stay at Dream Cliff Mountain Resort was like living in a cloud—literally perched on the edge of a cliff with views that go on forever.
🐆 Day 6–7: Yala & Galle – Safari Thrills & Coastal Charm Next up: Yala National Park. Our first game drive delivered elephants, water buffalo, crocodiles, and more—but no leopards. Luckily, our second drive came through: we saw leopards! 🐆
We stayed at the jaw-dropping Uga Chena Huts, where luxury meets wilderness. Think private plunge pools, jungle vibes, and impeccable service.
On our way to Galle, we visited a local school where the children sang and danced before opening gifts we brought. It was heartwarming and humbling. We also stopped at a local homestead to plant trees, leaving a little piece of ourselves behind.
Our final night was spent at Aditya Resort, a dreamy beachfront escape that was the perfect ending to our Sri Lankan story.
💛 Final Thoughts: Why Sri Lanka Stole My Heart Sri Lanka is a country of contrasts—ancient ruins and modern luxury, wild jungles and peaceful beaches, bustling cities and quiet villages. But what truly makes it special are the people: kind, welcoming, and full of joy.
