P&O Arvia - Norwegian Fjords Cruise

Anna Murrell on 29 Mar 2026

7-night cruise to the Norwegian fjords on board P&O Arvia from Southampton.

P&O Arvia is a modern, lively ship with a huge amount going on, but there’s also plenty of space to find quieter moments when you want them. With so much choice onboard, everyone naturally finds their own rhythm. For us, it struck a great balance between family time, time with friends and each doing our own thing.

The Norwegian fjords are an incredibly beautiful destination, and this itinerary worked really well for us as a family. The ports were easy to explore independently, very family friendly and offered stunning scenery whenever we were close to the coastline.

Each stop was simple and manageable without needing to pre-book excursions. Haugesund was easy, with a land train right by the ship. Stavanger was relaxed and walkable, with a playground nearby that was perfect for the children. Ålesund was a real highlight, especially waking up to snow and visiting Atlanterhavsparken Aquarium, which made for a brilliant family day out.

Having previously sailed on Arvia in warmer weather, it was interesting to experience her in a completely different setting. She works just as well for a Norwegian fjords itinerary.

Onboard, there was always something happening. The children loved the kids clubs and made new friends quickly, especially enjoying the evening sessions. We spent a lot of time in the SkyDome, which became a real hub for swimming, relaxing and entertainment, while The Quays was a favourite for casual meals.

Dining is a real highlight on Arvia, with a wide range of options that work well for families. Our favourite adult dining experiences included the Crow’s Nest, Epicurean and Mizuhana, while the children loved 6th Street Diner, Olive Grove, The Quays and Taste 360.

Entertainment was varied throughout the week, from theatre shows and live music to quizzes and themed activities, alongside plenty of swimming and mini-golf.

Arvia is a great choice for a Norwegian fjords cruise thanks to her Southampton departure, wide range of facilities, strong family offering and relaxed, flexible style of cruising.

Overall, this was a fantastic family cruise with a great mix of scenery, onboard experiences and quality time together. We would happily sail on Arvia again and would absolutely return to Norway in the future.
