My Seabourn Ovation Experience
Discovering Ultra‑Luxury At Sea
A special trip experiencing understated Luxury with Seabourn
I have recently returned from a very special five‑night familiarisation trip on the beautiful Seabourn Ovation, and I am still floating on a little cloud of sea air and champagne bubbles.
I was one of around sixteen travel professionals invited onboard, and one of just four Travel Counsellors. It was a wonderful opportunity to spend time with my Travel Counsellor colleagues and other industry partners, while really getting under the skin of the Seabourn experience so I can share honest, first‑hand insights with you.
Our itinerary took us from historic Rouen in northern France to some much‑loved UK ports: Plymouth, Portland and Portsmouth, before disembarking in Dover. Along the way I had the chance to live the voyage as a guest would, compare notes with fellow travel professionals, and experience just how special Seabourn truly is.
My journey began with an early flight to Paris. From there, I took the train from Paris Gare du Nord to Rouen in northern France.
I know many clients can feel a little daunted by the idea of getting to a European port, but this part of the trip really surprised me with how straightforward it was. The train journey was simple and relaxed, and on arrival in Rouen we were quickly able to pick up a taxi straight to the port.
If you like the idea of adding a night or two in Paris or Rouen before your sailing, it would be very easy to do so, and I can help you build that in.

My first Impressions of Seabourn Ovation
From the moment we stepped onboard, we were warmly welcomed and immediately put at ease by the crew. We were hosted by two lovely ladies from Seabourn, who made sure we had time to explore, ask questions and really understand the product.
That first evening, as we were overnighting in Rouen, we focused on getting our bearings, exploring the ship and enjoying a relaxed dinner together. There is something magical about settling into your suite, stepping out onto your balcony and knowing that the scenery will look different when you wake up.
I stayed in a veranda suite, which is Seabourn’s typical accommodation type and absolutely ideal for a luxury cruise. What really struck me was the sense of space. The suite felt more like a boutique hotel room than a traditional cruise cabin, with:
A large, comfortable bedroom area
A separate lounge area for relaxing or enjoying in‑suite dining
A generous private balcony to enjoy fresh air and sea views
A beautiful marble bathroom with a double sink and a proper bath as well as a shower
Having a bath on a ship feels like such a treat, especially after a day exploring ashore. Storage was excellent and the suite felt elegant yet welcoming, the sort of place you can instantly settle into.

Dining Onboard - Choice, Quality And Linger‑Longer Evenings
One of the biggest joys of Seabourn Ovation is the dining. There is a real emphasis on quality, variety and relaxed, unhurried service. During my five nights onboard I was able to try several of the venues:
The main buffet restaurant is a lovely space used for breakfast and lunch, with plenty of choice and a very civilised atmosphere. In the evenings there are themed buffet dinners, which are perfect if you prefer something a little more informal but still beautifully presented.
There are plenty of wonderful restaurants to choose from. There is a dedicated sushi restaurant which was my favourite. The elegant dining rooms focus on fine ingredients, thoughtful presentation and attentive service.
Even on a short sailing, I had a real sense that you could be onboard for longer without ever getting bored of the food. Portions are well judged, so you can happily enjoy several courses without feeling rushed or over‑faced.

Understated Luxury
One of the key things I took away from this trip is just how genuinely all‑inclusive Seabourn is. It's understated Luxury. On Seabourn Ovation, you do not need to worry about:
Wi‑Fi charges
Gratuities or service charges
Bills for drinks: wines, spirits, cocktails, soft drinks and speciality coffees are all included
Supplementary fees for most dining options
It creates a very relaxed atmosphere onboard. There is no constant signing of chits or mental arithmetic about what the bill will look like at the end. Instead, you can focus on enjoying yourself, knowing that almost everything is already taken care of.
The service is another real standout. The crew quickly learn your preferences, greet you by name and strike that perfect balance between professional and friendly. Nothing feels stuffy, yet everything runs seamlessly in the background.

Because this was a fam trip, a big part of our time onboard was spent exploring the ship, experiencing it as our clients would and sharing insights with one another. I really valued the chance to compare notes with other travel professionals and see what impressed them most. It was special to

spend relaxed time with my fellow Travel Counsellors, talking about how different clients might enjoy Seabourn.
Even on a short sailing, it was very clear that Seabourn Ovation offers that lovely balance of enrichment, relaxation and understated glamour. You can be as busy or as peaceful as you choose.
Ports Of Call - A Taste Of Home From A Different Angle
Our itinerary called into Plymouth, Portland and Portsmouth, all familiar UK names but seen through the lens of an ultra‑luxury cruise.

Although this particular trip was quite compact and focused on getting to know the ship, it really highlighted how appealing it can be to explore closer‑to‑home ports in a different way: waking up somewhere new, stepping ashore for a few hours and then returning to the comfort of your suite without the faff of packing and unpacking.
For clients who do not want long‑haul flights, or who prefer shorter breaks, these itineraries are a lovely way to dip a toe into ultra‑luxury cruising.
The biggest benefit of a trip like this is being able to return home with first‑hand experience. I have walked the decks, slept in the suites, dined in the restaurants and seen how guests are looked after. I now feel completely confident helping you decide whether Seabourn is the right fit for you, and if so, which itinerary, suite type and sailing would suit your travel style best.
If you are curious about trying a luxury cruise for the first time, upgrading from a more mainstream line to something more refined and inclusive or planning a special celebration at sea, such as a birthday or anniversary then I would be delighted to share more about my time on Seabourn Ovation and tailor some ideas just for you.
