Galapagos Islands

Wherever next?

One of the most exciting parts of owning an independent personal travel business is not knowing what the next enquiry will bring.

Mostly,  clients come to me because they are looking for something bespoke. This might be a standard package holiday to the Mediterranean, but it always requires some form of tweak. It might be more than one destination, a villa that fits their specific needs or simply private transfers so they can avoid the dreaded 'multi stop' coach transfer. In short, they're looking to create their own holiday rather than being told by the standard package companies how their annual trip should pan out. What's surprising for most is that it's far better value for money than they think!

However, some enquiries are just that little bit special.

I have recently completed a booking that I've been working on for a number of weeks. The brief? A journey to Peru and Ecuador with a visit to Machu Pichu, a journey through the Secret Valley and then 4 days scuba diving in the Galapagos Islands. The challenge isn't how to do this (I have incredible contacts all over the world), it's mostly in the planning of when to go, the logistics of knitting this all together within a specific number of days, keeping the itinerary busy without being exhausting and, of course, bringing it all in on budget. The Galapagos Islands are on the 'one day' list for most nature lovers but trust me, it's not that simple getting there!

A new enquiry this week was equally intriguing even though it's much closer to home. A regular client of mine has been captivated by the possibility of travelling through the Swiss Engadin Alps which connect Northern and Southern Europe. This is achieved by climbing towards alpine glaciers on the Bernina Express. It's viewed as one of the world's most spectacular train journeys travelling through one of UNESCO's most treasured world heritage sites. I'm flying them into Zurich and back out of Milan and including some time to explore these two fantastic cities but it's really all about the train. Standard seating is available, but I'd certainly recommend a seat in First Class for this incredible journey.

Enquiries like these are an indication of our time. Television programmes like the BBC's 'Race Across the World' introduce destinations and experiences that have rarely entered the public consciousness before and they are all possible to obtain.

If you can dream it, I'm here to help you achieve it.
