Twin-centre Caribbean escape: St Lucia & Grenada

Getting there with British Airways

My wife Becky and I flew with British Airways from London Gatwick. We travelled in economy class on the outbound flight, which was comfortable and straightforward, with friendly cabin crew and a relaxed start to our Caribbean adventure.

St Lucia: Anse Chastanet & those Piton views

We arrived in St Lucia on 1 October and headed to the iconic Anse Chastanet for a 4‑night stay on an all inclusive basis.

Our home was a Premium Room with Hillside View, and it honestly took our breath away. From the moment we opened the shutters we were treated to:

• Stunning views of the Pitons, framed perfectly from the room and balcony
• A beautiful bathroom, also looking out towards the Pitons, which made even getting ready for dinner feel special
• A peaceful, natural setting that felt wonderfully private and romantic

The resort itself has a relaxed, authentically Caribbean feel, with excellent service and a focus on the surrounding nature. During our stay we managed to pack in a fantastic mix of activities and indulgence:

• Spa treatment: an incredibly soothing experience, perfectly timed after the long flight and ideal for easing into holiday mode.
• Sailing and snorkelling trip: being out on the water with the Pitons in the background and then snorkelling in the clear Caribbean Sea was a real highlight.
• Site inspection at Jade Mountain: seeing this world‑famous sister property up close was a real treat, especially its spectacular open‑plan suites and views.
• Chocolate making in the chocolate lab: a fun and delicious experience, learning more about the bean‑to‑bar process and, of course, sampling as we went.

We dined at all of the restaurants during our stay and the food was consistently excellent: fresh, creative and beautifully presented. The staff were warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming, which made a huge difference to the overall feel of the resort.

Overall, Anse Chastanet was one of the best holidays I have ever had. The combination of those unforgettable Piton views, the character of the room, the quality of the food and the friendliness of the team made it very hard to leave.

Grenada: Understated luxury at Calabash

From St Lucia we flew onwards to Grenada for the second part of our Caribbean adventure, spending 3 nights at the Calabash on a half board basis in a Junior Suite.

Calabash has a very refined, boutique feel: intimate, elegant and with a strong focus on personal service. Our Junior Suite was spacious and beautifully appointed, with everything you would expect from a luxury boutique hotel.

Exploring Grenada with Emil Edwards

While in Grenada we were hosted by Emil Edwards from Grenada Tourism, who arranged a wonderful full‑day tour for us on Thursday 6 October 2022. The day’s highlights included:

• Town of St George’s: colourful, historic and full of character, with lovely harbour views.
• Annandale Waterfall: a scenic stop where you can enjoy the lush surroundings and, if you wish, take a refreshing dip. Guests are encouraged to bring a change of clothes and swimming gear.
• Grand Etang Rainforest: a chance to experience Grenada’s green, mountainous interior and its volcanic lake.
• Belmont Estate (tour and lunch): a fascinating insight into local history, agriculture and chocolate production, rounded off with a tasty lunch showcasing local flavours.

We departed Calabash at 9:00 am for this tour and returned later that afternoon, having really fallen in love with the island’s natural beauty and easy-going charm.

Dining & hospitality

Once again, the food was excellent. We ate at the Gary Rhodes restaurant at Calabash, which offered beautifully crafted dishes and a very polished yet relaxed atmosphere. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly, professional and always helpful, adding to the overall sense of calm and comfort.

Our room at Calabash was equally impressive: stylish, comfortable and perfectly in keeping with the hotel’s reputation for understated luxury.

Homeward bound in Premium Economy

For our journey home we flew back with British Airways in Premium Economy. The extra space, enhanced service and quieter cabin were very welcome after such a full and rewarding trip, rounding off the holiday in comfort.

Final thoughts

This combination of St Lucia and Grenada turned out to be a perfect Caribbean twin‑centre:

• Anse Chastanet delivered jaw‑dropping scenery, characterful accommodation and some of the best food and service I have experienced on holiday, with unforgettable views of the Pitons from both room and bathroom.
• Calabash in Grenada offered refined boutique luxury, superb dining and a brilliant base for exploring the island’s natural highlights.

I would definitely stay at both hotels again in the future. We loved them both and came home with some truly special memories.
