A Corfu holiday is the perfect setting for a tale of Greek myth and legend.

Lush green mountains fringe vast expanses of lovely beaches, you can swim in crystal clear waters wherever you go and see as much of this wonderful island as possible, travelling around by car is easy.

The great thing about the Ionian Islands is they are as perfect as they appear. Corfu is one of the better-known islands. Covered with olive and cypress trees, surrounded by beautiful shores, and is filled with a warm, welcoming culture. It is an island that demands to be wooed, and in return, it’s easy to see why it is so tempting to honeymooners, couples and families who love every aspect of holidays in Corfu.

This, combined with a beautiful climate, ensures guests return year after year to enjoy Corfu’s gorgeous coastline, which is dotted with hidden coves. On sunny days, soak up the island atmosphere and relax on beaches that fringe the sparkling Ionian, or restless explorers can drive through the more mountainous north or visit traditional villages in the south.

Things to see and do

The Archeological Museum of Corfu

The Archaeological Museum of Corfu contains a wealth of interesting finds from all over Corfu, including many from the Temple of Artemis in Corcyra (the ancient capital). From the Temple of Artemis is the attic (pediment) that has a well-preserved Archaic sculpture of Medusa and from the Tomb of Menecrates, there is a funerary statue of a crouching lion.

Parga & Paxos

Parga & Paxos is an opportunity to visit another Ionian Island and step foot on the mainland of Greece all in the same day as you visit two of Greece’s contrasting jewels. Parga maybe physically located on the mainland of Greece, but it has a very island feel with its secluded bay, colourful houses, exotic beaches and turquoise waters. The island of Paxos maybe small and only features three villages but it exudes a discreet glamour whilst remaining completely tranquil surrounded by clear waters and beautiful beaches.

Achillion Palace in Gastouri

A holiday escape for an empress, a war office for a Kaiser, a military hospital and a casino – there’s far more than Greek history to the Achilleion Palace.

The Museum of Asian Art

Where would you expect to find Chinese porcelain, Japanese netsuke, Nepalese figurines and the garments of Central Asian nomads? If your answer was not Corfu, you will be in for a delightful surprise at the Museum of Asian Art

Vlacherna Monastery & Mouse Island

Two of the most photographed attractions on Corfu are Vlacherna Monastery & Mouse Island (Pontikonissi), which you can access from Kanoni which sits above Corfu Town, with steps that lead you to the small church of Panagia Vlacherna, built in the 17th century with an impressive wooden-carved iconostasis and beautiful frescoes inside with a tall bell tower overlooking the church and just a 5mins boat ride further from the church is the legendary Mouse Island where fishing boats regularly cross from between the church and the island. This lush green island, so called named due to its small size, is held in Greek mythology as the ship of Ulysses that was stoned by Poseidon, God of the sea and waters. In the centre of the Mouse Island, there is the 13th-century church of Pantokrator.

Make a splash at Aqualand

Regardless of age, there is fun for all the family at Aqualand, the largest water park in Corfu. Located in the centre of Corfu, Aqualand is easy to get to from wherever you might be staying on the island. Go and have a fun filled day and make a splash at this excellent water park, reported to be the largest in Europe. There are over 36 different water slides, 15 adventure pools, Jacuzzi and much more to enjoy here. Added to that, it has great facilities with free parking, free sunbeds, umbrellas and changing facilities too.

The Corfu Trail

The popular TV series The Durrells showed millions of viewers the beauty of Corfu beyond the beaches, and the 220km Corfu Trail has become a popular route for walkers keen to explore the landscape, olive groves and picturesque villages of the island’s coast and interior.
