Travel Blog – Five Must - visit towns in Mallorca

Debbie Hayward-Bird on 02 Jul 2026

Whilst it may be famous for its beaches, some of this beautiful island's most memorable experiences are found beyond the coastline. From mountain villages and bustling market towns to sea views that seem to stretch forever, Mallorca's towns each bring their own character and charm. Whether you're planning a fly-drive holiday or looking to add a few day trips to your beach escape, these are five places that deserve a spot on your itinerary.

Sóller

Arriving in Sóller feels like stepping into another side of Mallorca. Surrounded by orange groves and the dramatic peaks of the Tramuntana mountains, this lively town combines beautiful scenery with a vibrant atmosphere. The heart of Sóller centres around its elegant main square, where cafés spill onto terraces and the historic wooden tram rattles past on its way to Port de Sóller. Spend time wandering the streets, browsing local shops, and soaking up the atmosphere before hopping aboard the tram for a scenic journey to the coast.

Valldemossa

Few places capture Mallorca's charm quite like Valldemossa. Stone cottages draped in flowers, winding lanes, and mountain views create a setting that feels effortlessly picturesque. This is a town made for wandering. Around every corner, you'll find quiet courtyards, small bakeries, and inviting cafés perfect for a leisurely coffee stop. The historic monastery adds another layer to the experience, while the surrounding mountain scenery makes even the simplest stroll feel epic. If you're looking for a place that showcases Mallorca at its most enchanting, Valldemossa is hard to beat.

Deià

Perched between the mountains and the sea, Deià has long attracted artists, writers, and visitors looking for somewhere with a little extra character. The village itself is wonderfully atmospheric, with honey-coloured stone buildings, boutique galleries, and terraces overlooking the surrounding landscape. It's easy to see why so many people fall in love with this corner of the island. And then there's the sunset. Just outside the village, Sa Foradada has become one of Mallorca's most celebrated sunset spots. Watching the sun sink into the Mediterranean as the coastline glows gold is one of those experiences that stays with you long after you've returned home. Arrive early, find a spot overlooking the water, and enjoy one of the island's most spectacular evening views.

Pollença

In the north of the island, Pollença offers a wonderful blend of culture, history, and local life. Its elegant squares, traditional streets, and thriving café scene make it a favourite with visitors who enjoy exploring at a slower pace. One of the highlights is climbing the famous Calvari Steps, where 365 stone steps lead to a small chapel overlooking the rooftops and surrounding countryside. The views from the top are well worth the effort. The town also has a creative side, with galleries, artisan shops, and a lively market that fills the streets with colour and energy each we

Alcúdia Old Town

Encircled by medieval walls, Alcúdia Old Town feels completely different from Mallorca's coastal resorts. Step through the ancient gateways and you'll discover a maze of narrow streets, hidden courtyards, and lively squares filled with restaurants and local shops. Walking along sections of the old walls offers fantastic views across the town and surrounding countryside. It's particularly enjoyable in the evening, when the streets fill with diners, lights begin to twinkle, and the historic centre takes on a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
