Seychelles island hopping: our dream honeymoon through the Seychelles

We spent our honeymoon moving between different islands and completely different styles of luxury, from a stunning hillside villa at Four Seasons on Mahé, to Praslin and La Digue, then on to the incredible Six Senses Zil Pasyon on Félicité before finishing on the wonderfully remote Denis Private Island.

Looking back, it was the variety that made the trip so special.

We started with three nights at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles and honestly, the hillside villa was one of those places that makes you stop in your tracks. Set into the lush hillside above Petite Anse, it had the most incredible views and our own private pool, and it felt incredibly secluded.

I also had an Ayurvedic consultation at the resort’s spa, which sits high on the hillside and has some pretty spectacular views over Mahé.

The food was incredible and they did everything to make our Honeymoon as special as possible, those little touches meant so much.

After three nights it was time to leave Mahé behind and take the ferry over to Praslin, which was a completely different experience.

We stayed for three nights at the Black Parrot Suites at Coco de Mer and really enjoyed the more relaxed island feel. The hotel also provided a complimentary guided nature walk, which was a lovely way to discover more of the island, as well as a complimentary shuttle to Anse Lazio, one of Praslin’s most beautiful beaches.

We also made sure to visit La Digue while we were based on Praslin, and I’m so glad we did. The huge granite boulders and impossibly beautiful beaches genuinely look like something from a screensaver, and then there are the giant tortoises wandering around which somehow make the whole place feel even more surreal.

We explored by bike, which is such a fun way to see La Digue, stopping for drinks at a local beach bar and just enjoying the slower pace of island life.

From Praslin we then headed to Six Senses Zil Pasyon by private boat, and this was another complete change of pace.

Set on Félicité Island, it is surrounded by dramatic granite rocks, lush vegetation and incredible ocean views, and the journey there was part of the experience too.

This was my first stay at a Six Senses property and it was everything I dreamed about and more. 

Then came what was probably one of the most memorable journeys of the whole honeymoon: leaving Zil Pasyon by helicopter and connecting with a light aircraft to Denis Private Island. Even arriving by air felt like an adventure, flying over that incredible turquoise water before seeing the island appear below.

Denis was completely different again.

It’s a tiny private island where you really feel like you’ve escaped from everything, and there was something wonderfully natural and unhurried about the experience.

We spent our time cycling around the island, exploring their own farm, seeing the giant tortoises and getting into the water to snorkel with turtles.

One of the things I particularly loved about Denis was that the island’s farm is actually part of the experience. You can see where much of the food comes from and get a real feel for how self-sufficient the island is, rather than everything feeling completely removed from real island life.

After three nights on Denis, we flew back to Mahé for one final night before catching our flight to Johannesburg for the second part of our honeymoon – safari at The Last Word Kitara.

And that combination turned out to be incredible.

We had the beaches, islands, incredible villas and turquoise water of the Seychelles, followed by something completely different in South Africa.

For me, that is one of the biggest advantages of using the Seychelles as part of a honeymoon itinerary: you don’t have to choose between relaxing and having an adventure.

You can have both. You can spend a few nights doing absolutely nothing in a beautiful hillside villa, then be cycling around a tiny island, snorkelling with turtles or flying over the Indian Ocean in a helicopter a few days later.

If you’re planning a honeymoon to the Seychelles, I would definitely recommend looking beyond just one island. The combination of Mahé, Praslin, La Digue, Félicité and Denis gave us so many different experiences.
