Daios Cove, Crete - Where Family Time Meets Five-Star Luxury
Finding a luxury family holiday that genuinely works for everyone isn’t always easy. You want somewhere the children will love, but also somewhere that still feels special for the adults.
Last month, my husband, our 10-year-old son and I spent a fantastic week at Daios Cove in Crete, and it reminded me exactly why this resort is such a firm favourite with families who still want a touch of grown-up luxury.
From the moment we arrived, the setting took our breath away; a private cove framed by rocky hillsides, shimmering blue water and stylish contemporary architecture that somehow still feels warm and welcoming. Our son was immediately fascinated by the funicular gliding up and down the hillside, while we were rather taken with the spectacular views from almost everywhere you look.
Food is a real highlight at Daios Cove. We enjoyed long, lazy breakfasts with plenty of choice for everyone, from fresh fruit and pastries to eggs cooked to order. Evenings felt like a treat too, with beautifully presented dishes, consistently high-quality food and, just as importantly when travelling as a family, genuinely friendly and attentive service. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, whether it was adapting a dish for our son or recommending a local wine for us to try.
The service throughout our stay was equally impressive. Staff quickly picked up on our preferences, greeted us by name and created that wonderful feeling of being genuinely looked after. Around the pool and beach, the team were always on hand with towels, drinks and snacks, leaving us free to relax while our son made the most of swimming and paddling in the calm waters of the bay.
We also ventured into nearby Agios Nikolaos, a charming harbour town just a short drive from the resort. It made for a perfect change of pace: wandering along the waterfront, stopping for ice creams and coffees, and soaking up the relaxed Cretan atmosphere around the lake and marina before retreating to the peace of our private cove.
Our week at Daios Cove delivered exactly what we had hoped for; proper family time, superb food and service, and a beautiful base from which to experience this part of Crete. It manages that sometimes elusive balance between a luxurious escape for the adults and a relaxed, welcoming holiday for children.
If you’re considering a luxury Greek escape where the whole family can genuinely switch off and enjoy themselves, Daios Cove is certainly one to have on your shortlist.
