Why the Maldives Needs to Be Back on Everyone’s Travel List

After three stays in the Maldives, I can confidently say this destination is so much more than the picture-perfect Instagram shots we all know and love. Yes, the water really is that turquoise, the sunsets are unreal, and the villas feel like something from a dream — but what keeps drawing me back is something much deeper. In a world where we are constantly connected, overstimulated, and rushing from one thing to the next, the Maldives offers something increasingly rare: genuine reconnection. To nature. To family. To yourself. The moment you arrive, shoes come off, phones get forgotten, and life slows down in the best possible way.

My First Love: Six Senses Laamu

Six Senses Laamu completely stole my heart. It’s one of those places where luxury feels effortless rather than flashy — true barefoot luxury at its finest.

The overwater villas are stunning, designed beautifully but still deeply connected to the natural surroundings. Waking up to endless Indian Ocean views and falling asleep to the sound of the waves is something that stays with you long after you leave.

But what really makes Laamu special is the marine life. Snorkelling straight from your villa feels like swimming in an aquarium — turtles, reef sharks, vibrant coral, and schools of tropical fish everywhere you look.

And yes, it takes a little longer to get there compared to some other resorts, but trust me: the extra journey is absolutely worth it. In fact, the remoteness is part of the magic.

The food is also exceptional — from fresh seafood dinners under the stars to healthy, organic breakfasts that somehow taste even better when your feet are in the sand.

Kanuhura by Six Senses: Perfect for Families

For families travelling with younger children or teens, Kanuhura Maldives is such a brilliant option.

It has that same relaxed Six Senses feel but with a slightly more playful energy. There’s space to explore, cycle around the island, enjoy watersports, and actually spend quality time together without distractions.

What I loved most was how easy it felt. Parents can genuinely relax while teenagers still have enough activities and freedom to keep them entertained — which, as many parents know, is the ultimate luxury.

The beaches are postcard-perfect, the villas are incredibly spacious, and the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming rather than overly formal.

InterContinental Maldives: The Ultimate Marine Life Experience

Then there’s InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort — a resort that gave me some of the most unforgettable wildlife encounters I’ve ever had.

Swimming with nurse sharks and manta rays was one of those true “pinch me” moments. Seeing these incredible creatures in their natural habitat is both humbling and exhilarating at the same time.

The famous Lighthouse restaurant is also a standout — incredible food, stunning setting, and one of those evenings where you sit looking out across the ocean thinking, this is exactly why travel matters.

Why the Maldives Matters More Than Ever

The Maldives isn’t just about luxury. It’s about slowing down.

It’s about morning swims instead of morning emails. Sunset dinners instead of screen time. Listening to waves instead of notifications.

And perhaps that’s why I think now, more than ever, the Maldives deserves to be back on everyone’s travel list.

Because true luxury today isn’t just beautiful hotels — it’s space, calm, connection, and experiences that genuinely make us feel something.

The Maldives gives you all of that in abundance.

And once you’ve experienced it properly, a little piece of you never really leaves.
