Counting Down the Days Until I Return to Oceania Allura
There are few ships that leave such a lasting impression that you find yourself planning your return before you've even returned home, but for me, Oceania Allura was one of those ships. I was fortunate enough to be invited aboard her inaugural sailing in 2025, cruising from Genoa to Trieste. As a luxury travel advisor, experiencing a brand-new ship from day one is always exciting, but Allura exceeded my expectations in ways I hadn't anticipated. And that's why I'm so excited to be stepping back on board next week, this time for a 10-night voyage from Athens through the beautiful Greek Islands.
There's something undeniably special about a new ship. Every space feels immaculate, every towel and robe fluffy and every detail carefully considered, and there's a sense of excitement throughout the crew and guests alike. I loved that Allura was new and also how spacious she felt. Whether relaxing by the pool, enjoying a quiet corner with a speciality coffee, or dining in one of the restaurants, the ship never felt crowded. There's a real ease to the design that allows you to slow down and simply enjoy being at sea.
Oceania has always positioned itself as offering refined luxury rather than over-the-top extravagance, and Allura captures that perfectly. It's sophisticated but relaxed, so you won't find stuffy dress codes or overly formal evenings. Instead, you'll discover beautifully designed public spaces, attentive yet genuine service, and an atmosphere where you can truly unwind. For travellers who enjoy exceptional standards without feeling they're "on show", it's a wonderful balance.
If you've heard Oceania described as the cruise line "built by foodies, for foodies", believe it. One of the biggest highlights is that the speciality restaurants are included in your fare. Rather than paying extra for memorable dining experiences, you can simply enjoy them as part of your holiday. From perfectly prepared steaks and seafood to authentic Italian cuisine and inventive international dishes, every meal feels like dining in a high-end restaurant ashore.
And then there's Aquamar Kitchen... Focused on fresh, vibrant and wellness-inspired dishes, it's the perfect choice when you want something lighter without compromising on flavour. I loved the colourful smoothies, nourishing poke-bowls, fresh seafood and beautifully presented healthy dishes that make you feel just as good as they taste.
One of the most significant changes since my inaugural voyage is that Oceania Cruises is now an adults-only cruise line. For many of my clients, this is incredibly appealing. It creates a peaceful atmosphere throughout the ship, whether you're enjoying a leisurely breakfast, relaxing by the pool with a book, or watching the sunset with a cocktail in hand. It's not about exclusivity—it's about creating a calm, sophisticated environment where you can truly switch off.
Returning to a ship you already love is a little like revisiting a favourite boutique hotel—you know the service will be excellent, the food outstanding and the surroundings beautiful. This time, however, I get to combine all of that with one of my favourite cruising regions: the Greek Islands. With ports almost every day, there'll be plenty of opportunities to explore charming harbours, wander whitewashed villages, enjoy long lunches overlooking the sea and soak up everything that makes Greece so special.
Over the next couple of weeks I'll be sharing plenty of photos, videos and honest impressions from on board—from the dining experiences and accommodation to the ports of call and those little details that make Oceania stand out. If you've ever said, "I'm not really a cruise person," this may well be the ship that changes your mind. Because Oceania Allura isn't about ticking off destinations from the deck of a floating resort; it's about travelling well, eating exceptionally, enjoying beautiful destinations and having the comfort of unpacking just once.
