Where next? Autumn escapes, big-journey cruises & Canada dreams

Lyndsay Sherwin on 31 Jul 2026

As summer begins to wind down, many of my clients start to look ahead: to cooler days, richer colours and the chance to plan something special for later in the year or beyond. It is a lovely moment to pause, re set and think about how you want your next trip to feel. In this blog I am sharing some ideas for where to go this autumn, why having a dedicated Travel Counsellor beside you matters more than ever, three incredible cruise itineraries that make vast destinations feel easy, and a spotlight on one of this year’s star destinations: Canada. I will end with a small thank you, because no travel business grows alone.

1. Where to go this autumn

Autumn might just be one of the most rewarding seasons to travel. Temperatures are softer, the light is beautiful and many popular spots become calmer and more atmospheric once the peak summer crowds have gone.

It is a wonderful time for culture‑rich city breaks. Think long weekends spent wandering historic streets, exploring galleries and museums, or lingering over dinners in cosy restaurants. You often get more breathing space at the big sights, and there is a good chance of better availability and value in higher‑category rooms and smaller, characterful hotels.

If you are still chasing the sun, autumn can be the sweet spot in many destinations: warm enough for the beach or pool, but generally more relaxed. For nature lovers, it is prime time for hiking, wellness and photography breaks, with forests turning golden and mountain air feeling crisp and clear.

If you tell me the mood you want from your trip, I can suggest destinations and stays that capture it perfectly.

2. Why the role of the Travel Advisor is thriving

Travel has never offered more possibilities, but it has also rarely felt more complex. Geopolitical shifts, changing situations in regions such as parts of the Middle East, cost‑of‑living pressures, airline schedule changes and the impact of heatwaves or wildfires all mean there is more to consider when planning a holiday.

That is where having a dedicated Travel Counsellor really comes into its own.

My role is to sit between you and the noise: tracking what is happening, advising honestly if a destination or timing is not ideal for you, and suggesting smart alternatives. I help you protect value by comparing options fairly, explaining the small print, and showing where it makes sense to upgrade and where we can comfortably save.

If an airline moves your flight, a hotel overbooks or you suddenly need to change plans, you are not starting again on your own. You have one person who already knows your itinerary, your preferences and your priorities, ready to step in and sort things out. In short, I absorb the stress so you can focus on the excitement.

3. Three incredible cruise itineraries

Some destinations are so vast and layered that a cruise is simply the best way to truly experience them. Three that I love to talk about are Alaska, Antarctica and Japan.

Alaska feels purpose‑built for cruising. From your ship you can glide through dramatic fjords, watch glaciers calve into the water and look out for whales, eagles and bears, all without constant packing and unpacking. Time ashore in charming ports and national parks adds variety, and we can easily build in pre‑ or post‑cruise stays.

Antarctica is the ultimate once‑in‑a‑lifetime voyage. Expedition‑style ships with expert guides, Zodiacs for ice landings and cosy lounges make it possible to explore one of the most remote regions on earth in comfort. Choosing the right ship, cabin and sailing window makes a huge difference, and I can talk you through those nuances.

Japan can feel overwhelming to plan independently, which is why seeing part of it by sea works so well. You unpack once, then wake up in new ports and islands that blend neon cities, serene temples and traditional towns. It is easy to add time in Tokyo, Kyoto or beyond before or after you sail.

4. Canada in the spotlight

Canada has been one of the true stand‑out destinations for my clients this year. It offers a rare mix: dramatic scenery, wildlife, outdoorsy adventure, cosmopolitan cities and a very warm welcome.

One of my favourite ways to experience Western Canada is with a tailor‑made journey that combines:

  • Iconic lakes and mountain scenery in the Rockies
  • Time in vibrant Vancouver, with its food scene and waterfront setting
  • A journey on the legendary Rocky Mountaineer, with panoramic carriages and fine dining
  • Stays in carefully chosen lodges and hotels that make the most of their surroundings

From there, we can shape the trip around you: a slower pace for relaxed exploring, a more adventurous approach with hiking and wildlife experiences, or even adding on an Alaska cruise for the ultimate land‑and‑sea combination.

5. A heartfelt thank you

No business grows alone, and I never forget that. Every booking, every referral, every time you share a post or forward my details to a friend genuinely means more than you know. It allows me to keep doing what I love: designing thoughtful, individual journeys and being there for you at every step, from our first conversation to the moment you arrive home.

Whether you travel often or only for very special occasions, you are a valued part of my community. If you know someone who would benefit from having their own dedicated Travel Counsellor, I would be truly grateful if you passed my name on.

Whenever you are ready to start planning your next adventure, I am here to help.
