Cavtat: My Little Slice of Croatian Paradise
There are some places you visit and enjoy, and then there are those that stay with you long after you’ve come home. For me, Cavtat is definitely one of those places. From its crystal-clear waters and beautiful waterfront to its relaxed atmosphere and gorgeous sunsets, this little Croatian gem completely won me over. After my recent visit, I can honestly say it’s somewhere I’d return to in a heartbeat – and here’s why.
From a recent visit, Cavtat has completely stolen my heart, and staying at the Cavtat Hotel is a big part of why I keep dreaming of going back.
Tucked on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast, Cavtat is small, pretty and wonderfully relaxed. The Cavtat Hotel sits right by the sparkling bay, so my days quickly fell into an easy rhythm: morning coffee on the terrace, watching the boats glide in, then a lazy wander down to the water for a swim in the clearest sea I’ve ever seen.
What I love most is how effortless everything feels. The promenade is lined with cafés and restaurants, so it is just a case of strolling along, stopping for gelato or a glass of wine, and choosing where to eat that evening. The old town is a maze of cobbled streets, stone houses and little stairways that always seem to lead to another gorgeous viewpoint.
When I wanted to stretch my legs, I walked the pine‑shaded paths around the Rat Peninsula, with constant views of the Adriatic and nearby islands. On other days, I simply settled on the beach at Žal and did nothing more demanding than deciding when to swim next.
Cavtat feels peaceful and intimate, but it is also perfectly placed. Dubrovnik is an easy boat ride or short transfer away, so I could dip into the buzz of the city, then retreat back to the calm of “my” hotel by the bay.
For me, the Cavtat Hotel and the resort itself are all about slowing down: sea views, sunsets, good food and that lovely feeling of being somewhere beautiful but not overcrowded. It is one of those places that lingers with you long after you have left.
