Sailing Croatia - One of my all time favourite trips
Sailing around Croatia in 2023 is still one of those trips I think about all the time – and it is exactly the kind of holiday I love designing for my clients I spent a week on a small luxury yacht, tracing the Dalmatian coast and waking up somewhere beautiful every single day. Because it was a small boat, we were able to slip into tiny bays the big cruise ships simply cannot reach, anchor up in calm, turquoise water and have peaceful swims before heading ashore for dinner. It felt exclusive, relaxed and incredibly personal.
My route took me from Split to Stari Grad, Hvar, Mljet, Dubrovnik, Korčula and Makarska, before returning to Split for a final night.
Along the way I was able to:
Seek out Marco Polo’s birthplace in Korčula Old Town
- Discover Diocletian’s Palace in Split
- Dine in a World Heritage listed old town in Stari Grad
- Hike up to Spanjola Fortress in Hvar for those iconic views
- Explore a 12th century Benedictine Monastery on the green island of Mljet
- Walk Dubrovnik’s famous city walls at golden hour
- Catch one of Makarska’s legendary sunsets over the sea
What I really loved was the balance: exciting, glamorous Hvar; the traditional charm of Stari Grad; the lush tranquillity of Mljet; the drama and history of Dubrovnik; the characterful streets of Korčula and the laid‑back seaside feel of Makarska. Days could be as relaxed or as busy as I wanted: sunbathing on deck, swimming straight from the yacht, wandering cobbled streets, or dressing up for dinner in beautiful local restaurants right on the water.
