Athens and the Athens Riviera
Athens & The Athens Riviera: My New Favourite Escape
I have a new favourite destination. Athens and the Athens Riviera completely exceeded my expectations and delivered one of the most memorable short breaks I have ever had.
A Stylish Stay in the Heart of Athens
We began with two amazing nights in Athens, staying at the beautiful and perfectly located Electra Metropolis Athens. Our room had a spectacular view of the Acropolis and the hotel genuinely exceeded expectations.
Set in Plaka, everything was on our doorstep: countless restaurants, cafés, shops and bars. The shops were especially handy, as British Airways managed to misplace our luggage on the way out!
Despite the BA drama, I fell head over heels for Athens: the food, the sights, the buzzing streets and the rich culture. In just around three and a half hours’ flight from the UK, you can be immersed in the very best of Greece.
Food, Views & Unforgettable Evenings
Every single meal we had in Athens was superb.
For my birthday, we celebrated with dinner at Orizontes Lycabettus, high above the city, where it is all about the views, views and more views. We also enjoyed an incredible tasting menu at Makris Athens, which was a real culinary highlight of the trip.
Breakfast at Electra Metropolis deserves a special mention too. The spread was unbelievable and it really confirmed my suspicion that Athenians know how to eat very well indeed.
A Peek Inside The Dolli
While in Athens, we also visited the iconic The Dolli for a site inspection. This hotel is something special: a perfect combination of chic boutique style and ultimate luxury.
We were treated to sundowner drinks at their rooftop bar and the views over the city were simply breathtaking. It is exactly the kind of place I would recommend to clients looking for a stylish, design-led stay with a real sense of occasion.
From there, we moved on to our second destination for the next two nights. Happily, our luggage decided to join us at this point too!
The Athens Riviera & My New Favourite Hotel
The real surprise of the trip was just how much I loved the Athens Riviera. It has a glamorous yet relaxed feel and turned out to be the setting for my new favourite hotel: One&Only Aesthesis.
We stayed in a garden bungalow with a private pool and I adored everything about it. From the gorgeous design and thoughtful little touches to the many different types of loungers and the inviting egg chair, it felt like our own private sanctuary.
The bed was one of the comfiest I have ever slept in, there was a fully stocked cocktail bar, a separate dressing area and an outstanding sound system with speakers cleverly hidden throughout.
The bathroom was another highlight, with a sunken bath, every amenity you could possibly think of, and even a handy bath tray for your Kindle (and a glass of wine). It was, quite simply, a truly beautiful place to stay.
Exceptional Service, Dreamy Breakfasts & A Perfect Location
The service at One&Only Aesthesis was exceptional. Every member of staff we met was warm, friendly and genuinely eager to help.
Breakfast was out of this world, with a huge choice of à la carte dishes alongside a sumptuous buffet so you could add anything your heart desired. It set us up perfectly for lazy days by the pool or exploring the local area.
The location is another big plus: you are just steps away from Glyfada, with its stylish restaurants, bars and shops, so you can easily mix resort relaxation with a taste of local life.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. If you are dreaming of a chic Greek escape that blends city culture with coastal luxury, Athens and the Athens Riviera should be right at the top of your list.
If this has inspired you to plan your own Athens and Athens Riviera getaway, I would love to help you create a trip that is perfectly tailored to you.
