Princess Cruises: My Day on Board Majestic Princess in Liverpool
If you have ever wondered what life is really like on a Princess cruise, I recently had the perfect chance to find out. I spent a full day on board Majestic Princess while she was docked in Liverpool, mid‑way through one of her British Isles sailings, and I came away genuinely impressed. Majestic Princess is based in Southampton for the season, sailing round‑trip British Isles cruises that take in some beautiful ports in Scotland and Ireland, as well as a full day in Liverpool. Being able to step on board for the day gave me a great feel for the ship, the atmosphere and, of course, the food.
First impressions of Majestic Princess
Majestic Princess is a big, modern resort‑style ship, carrying around 3,560 passengers in 1,780 staterooms. Despite her size, she never felt cramped or chaotic while I was on board. There is a real sense of space, with wide open decks, multiple pool areas and plenty of different lounges and venues to explore.
The central piazza is a real showstopper: a stunning, multi‑level atrium space that feels like the elegant heart of the ship. It is the sort of place you can imagine sitting with a coffee or a cocktail, listening to live music and just people‑watching as the day goes by.
Dining: so much included value
One of the things that really stood out to me is just how many dining options are included in the cruise fare. It is very easy to underestimate the value of this when you first look at the price of a cruise. On Majestic Princess you can enjoy:
- The Salty Dog Grill: perfect for poolside burgers and hot dogs.
- Alfredo’s / Slice: serving incredible pizza by the pool.
- International Café: open 24 hours, offering pastries, salads, sandwiches and desserts.
- Main dining rooms: for more formal, sit‑down meals with multiple courses.
- Plus buffet venues and other casual spots.
During my visit I tried a slice of pepperoni pizza from Alfredo’s, which was absolutely delicious, along with some flat lemonade. The lemonade is available at dining times in the buffet restaurant and is included in the price of the cruise, so there is no extra charge for that.

Pools, decks and space to relax
Majestic Princess has both inside and outside swimming pools, which is ideal given our ever‑changeable British weather. If the sun is shining there are plenty of sunbeds on the open decks for lazy days by the pool. If it is cooler or breezier, you still have somewhere warm and sheltered to swim and relax.
There are also sports facilities and lots of outdoor space, so the ship never felt overcrowded. It is very easy to wander off and find a quieter spot if you want a bit of peace with a book, or a livelier area if you are in the mood for more atmosphere.

Cabins and accommodation
Because the ship was mid‑cruise during my visit, we were not able to view the actual staterooms. However, I do have a lot of information on the different cabin types, from inside cabins right up to suites. So if you are trying to decide which category is right for you, I can talk you through the layouts, space, and who each option is best suited to, whether you are a couple, a family or travelling with friends.
Fantastic spaces for families and teens
Princess has a great reputation for looking after families, and Majestic Princess really reflects that. The kids’ club areas are bright and welcoming, with separate spaces based on age groups, and there is a very cool dedicated hangout area for teens as well.
One feature I particularly liked is how they handle siblings of different ages:
- If you have children in different age brackets, they are allowed to be together in the younger child’s club.
- The older child can “move down” to join a younger sibling.
- The younger one is not allowed to move up, which keeps things safe and age‑appropriate.
It is a sensible, family‑friendly approach that means brothers and sisters do not always have to be split up if they are close in age.

The Medallion app and smart tech on board
Princess uses a clever system called the Medallion (linked to an app) that makes life on board very smooth and convenient. Think of it as your:
- Digital key card
- Onboard “compass” to help you find your way around
- Way to order drinks and more
Some of the handy things it can do include:
- Hands‑free cabin access: as you approach your stateroom door, it recognises you and unlocks automatically, welcoming you back to your room. No more juggling with a traditional key card.
- Ordering drinks: you can order a drink from the app and have it brought to where you are, whether that is your cabin, your sunbed on deck or even while you are relaxing in the hot tub.
- Finding your way: the app can help you navigate the ship, which is especially useful for the first day or two while you are still getting your bearings.
All of this adds up to a very modern, easy cruise experience where you can focus on relaxing rather than worrying about logistics.
Entertainment and bars
There is no shortage of places to enjoy a drink and some entertainment. One that really stood out is O’Malley’s, the Irish bar, where they often have regular Irish singers on board. It has that cosy pub feel combined with a lively atmosphere, perfect after a day ashore in ports like Dublin, Belfast or Liverpool.
Combined with the shows in the theatre and live music around the ship, there is always something going on in the evenings if you want it.
Who is Majestic Princess perfect for?
Having spent the day exploring, I would happily recommend Majestic Princess to:
- Couples looking for a relaxed but high‑quality cruise, with excellent food, lots of included dining and plenty of quiet corners to unwind.
- Families who want great kids’ clubs, teen spaces, multiple pools and lots of choice throughout the day.
- First‑time cruisers who like the idea of sailing round the British Isles from Southampton without having to worry about flights.
- Repeat cruisers who want the comfort of a well‑known brand with a good balance of traditional cruising and modern touches.
The hidden value in all the included dining, the variety of public spaces and the family‑friendly approach means you really do get a lot for your money.
