Sipping Sunshine: Discovering the Wineries of Cyprus
There is something special about enjoying a glass of wine in the very place it was made. Cyprus, with its sun-drenched hillsides and centuries-old wine traditions, is one of those destinations where every sip tells a story. Having spent time visiting Cypriot wineries myself, I have seen first hand how warm, welcoming and authentic these experiences can be.
The charm of Cypriot wine country -
Away from the busy beaches and resort promenades, Cyprus reveals a softer, slower side. Head inland and you will find traditional stone villages, terraced vineyards and winding roads that climb into the foothills of the Troodos Mountains. This is where family-run wineries quietly produce some of the island’s most characterful wines. Spending time here feels like being welcomed into someone’s home. There is often a family member pouring the wine, another tending the vines, and stories about how the recipes and land have been passed down through generations.
What to expect from a visit at a local Winery in Cyprus -
- A relaxed walk through the vineyard, learning about local grape varieties and the island’s climate.
- A guided tour of the production area and cellars, often with plenty of time to ask questions.
- A generous tasting flight, sometimes paired with small local snacks like olives, cheese or fresh bread.
- The chance to purchase your favourite bottles to enjoy during your holiday or take home.
There is no rush, no hard sell, just a genuine pride in sharing the flavours and traditions of the island.

A personal highlight of mine -
Tsiakkas Winery in Troodos Mountains! Here one of my favourite moments was standing outside after a tasting, glass in hand, looking out over the vines as the late afternoon light turned everything golden. It was one of those simple, perfect travel memories: warm air, good company and the feeling of really connecting with a place rather than just passing through it. Including a picture of myself at the winery on this blog is not just a “holiday snap” – it is a reminder that I personally visit and experience the destinations I recommend. When I suggest a winery visit in Cyprus, it is because I know how it feels to be there.
Adding a winery visit to your Cyprus itinerary is ideal if you -
- Love good food and wine and want to try something authentically local.
- Would like a change of pace from the beach or pool.
- Enjoy meeting local people and hearing their stories.
- Are celebrating a special occasion and want to do something a little bit different.
It can be a gentle half-day trip from many resort areas, or part of a full day exploring traditional mountain villages.
If Cyprus and its wineries are calling your name, I can help you -
- Choose the right resort base that makes winery visits easy.
- Arrange private or small-group excursions that fit smoothly around the rest of your holiday.
- Build a tailor-made itinerary that balances beach time, village exploring and wine tasting.
Because I invest time in experiencing destinations for myself, I can match you with the kind of winery visit that suits you best, whether that is something rustic and traditional or a more modern, boutique tasting.
After spending the last 10 years working overseas in holiday destinations, I know how much those little touches and authentic experiences can elevate a trip from ‘nice’ to truly memorable.
