Walk through some of Europe's most spectacular scenery
One of the region's most recognisable landscapes is Seceda, where a dramatic ridgeline rises above the meadows of Val Gardena. Keen hikers can tackle the ascent from Ortisei, while cable cars make the high-altitude scenery much more accessible for those who prefer to save their energy for walking once they're at the top. From the ridge, trails lead between alpine meadows, mountain huts, and viewpoints across the Odle peaks.
Around Cortina, Cinque Torri offers another memorable day out. Its distinctive rock towers sit amongst an extraordinary landscape of walking trails and historic sites, while Lagazuoi combines high-altitude panoramas with trails that reveal the area's wartime history. For something gentler, the wide landscapes of Alpe di Siusi are perfect for spending a day walking from hut to hut, with mountain views accompanying you almost everywhere you turn. And if one day simply isn't enough, the Dolomites are famous for their Alte Vie, multi-day high routes that take walkers deeper into the mountains, staying in traditional rifugi along the way.
The important thing is choosing walks that suit you. A Dolomites holiday can be challenging and adventurous, but it can just as easily mean taking a cable car into the mountains, walking for a couple of hours, and settling onto a sunny terrace for lunch.
