Experience family adventures in Thailand

Thailand had been on our list for a while but, with two boys under ten, I had always wondered if it would be the right holiday for us. I could not have been more wrong. Thailand offers something for everyone. Whether you’re active like us and enjoy excursions and activities, or you prefer the quiet life and a relaxing retreat, Thailand ticks all the boxes.

We started our journey at Angsana Laguna Phuket, a beautiful hotel in a stunning beachfront location. The hotel was perfect for families, with options for water sports on the lagoon and plenty of pool areas to choose from. While in Phuket, we also enjoyed a longtail boat trip, one of the highlights of our time in Thailand! Our guide and driver took us around many of the islands in Phang Nga Bay, giving us lots of information along the way, and we ended the tour with a few wonderful hours at a secluded beach with breathtaking views.

From here we travelled on to Elephant Hills, the most wonderful place we have experienced as a family. While meeting the elephants and seeing them in their natural habitat was lovely, what made this a truly unforgettable experience was the warmth and friendliness of the staff and the exciting opportunities available. We kayaked through the Khao Sok National Park, paddle-boarded on the Cheow Larn Lake, and explored the jungle with an expert guide. This really is the ultimate family adventure.

Our final stop was at The Sands, Khao Lak, the perfect place to relax after a busy few days! This is a great family-friendly hotel with fantastic family rooms allowing separate spaces for both adults and children. While there’s plenty for children to do here, including a splash park, water slides, and a lazy river, there are also quieter areas of the hotel meaning there’s still space to get away from it all. We’ll never forget our beachfront dinners in the hotel, the perfect backdrop to this excellent location.

Thailand really is the perfect family destination, and we will definitely be returning to explore more of this beautiful country.

Japan in autumn: the other seasonal star

10 November 2025

Most people picture Japan in spring with parks full of pink petals, picnic blankets, and camera flashes. But what if you swapped cherry blossoms for fiery autumn leaves instead? The autumn season, known locally as kōyō, brings a slower, more atmospheric kind of beauty. It stretches across months rather than weeks and gives you a deeper sense of Japan’s rhythm, if you plan ahead, that is. Because once the colours start turning, hotels and viewing spots fill up fast.
