Tokyo’s contrasts, from Senso-ji to Harajuku

Your adventure begins with three nights in Tokyo, where ancient temples and neon-lit neighbourhoods sit side by side. Visit Senso-ji in Asakusa, browse the independent shops and colourful street style of Harajuku, or ask your Insider to point you towards one of the city’s atmospheric yokocho, narrow alleyways filled with tiny restaurants and bars. There’s also time to plan your own experiences, whether that means exploring Shibuya or taking in the city from above. After travelling through Japan, you’ll return to Tokyo for another three nights, giving you the chance to revisit a favourite area or tick off anything you missed.

Mount Fuji views and Kyoto evenings

From Tokyo, the tour continues to Hakone, a scenic area known for hot springs, mountain views, and Lake Ashi. A boat trip across the lake offers views towards Mount Fuji, while the Hakone Free Pass makes it easy to explore the area by local transport. In Kyoto, you’ll spend two nights visiting some of Japan’s most treasured landmarks, with an evening walking tour through Gion, the city’s traditional geisha district. There’s also free time to visit Fushimi Inari Shrine, stroll through the lanes of Higashiyama, or enjoy a bowl of steaming ramen near Kyoto Station.

Hiroshima, Miyajima, and Osaka

The route then moves west to Hiroshima, where you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on the city’s 20th-century history before travelling across the water to Miyajima. The island is known for its famous Itsukushima Shrine, striking torii gate, and friendly wild deer. Food is another important part of the experience, with time to try Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, a savoury pancake layered with noodles, cabbage, and toppings. Your final stop is Osaka, a lively city famous for its street food, shopping, and welcoming atmosphere, before the tour returns to Tokyo for the final part of the trip.
