As someone who loves to travel, my top favourite destination is Florida. I recommend that everyone should visit Disneyland and Universal Studios at least once in their lifetime. For city breaks, I recommend Paris, Rome, and Barcelona in Europe, and New York and Las Vegas for long-haul short breaks. Ski holidays are also a favourite of mine, having worked nine ski seasons in various European resorts. Whatever your budget, there's a ski resort that fits your needs.

Day 3 of My Norwegian Aqua Cruise Bruges

02 April 2025

I woke up bright and early and we had docked in Zeebrugge already!—There’s something about being on a cruise that makes you want to seize the day. Headed straight to the Surf Shack for the buffet breakfast, which was the perfect fuel for what was ahead. Today’s adventure? A trip to Bruges! Disembarking the Aqua we opted for an Uber into Bruges, which cost €50 each way. It works out best value if you’re splitting it four ways, but if you’re solo or in a smaller group, the tour bus at €30 return is the way to go. I hadn’t been to Bruges since 2008, when I worked as a contractor for Cresta Holidays, so I was thrilled to step back into its timeless charm. Honestly, it felt like nothing had changed—cobblestone streets, quaint canals, and that medieval magic still perfectly intact. We started off with a lovely walk through Bruges to the Cathedral, officially the Cathedral of the Savior (Sint-Salvatorskathedraal), is a Gothic gem, with roots stretching back to the 10th century and its current form crafted between the 13th and 15th centuries. Its 115-meter brick spire dominates the skyline, while inside, visitors are greeted by stunning stained-glass windows, Flemish paintings by masters like Anthony van Dyck, and treasures like a relic of the Holy Cross. Originally a parish church, it became a cathedral in 1834, blending Romanesque foundations with Gothic elegance and later neo-Gothic touches, offering a serene, history-rich escape that feels both grand and intimate. Then, it was onto a mini cruise down the canal—what better way to see Bruges than from the water? and only €15 for a 30 minute cruise. Afterward, we settled in the square with some cherry beer (a must-try!), people-watching and exploring the little shops and corners of the city. It was one of those days where you just lose yourself in the moment. Back on the Norwegian Aqua by 14:00, we dove into the ship’s incredible lineup of activities. The top deck was calling, and I couldn’t resist ‘The Drop’, a 10-story free-fall dry slide that had my heart racing as I plunged down the side of the ship. For something a bit less intense, we checked out Tee Time, the high-tech mini-golf course themed around the Wonders of the World. Spanning two decks with 12 interactive holes, it’s a fun challenge for all ages. The fun didn’t stop there. The Glow Court was great fun — a digital sports court with an LED floor that lights up for games like basketball or interactive challenges. By night, it transforms into a nightclub. For a more laid-back vibe, we strolled along Ocean Boulevard, a massive outdoor promenade wrapping around the ship. With infinity pools at Infinity Beach, comfy loungers, and bars like the Waves Pool Bar, it’s perfect for soaking in the sea air. Then onto the Oceanwalk, a glass-bottom bridge that lets you walk over the water! The kids (or kids at heart) have their own slice of paradise with the Kids’ Aqua Park, complete with slides and splash zones, while adults can unwind at the Vibe Beach Club, an exclusive oasis with hot tubs and a full-service bar. If gaming’s your thing, the Aqua Game Zone has it all—retro arcade classics like Ms. Pac-Man, cutting-edge VR experiences, and even interactive darts at the Bull’s Eye Bar. We didn’t have time to hit the pickleball court or the Pulse Fitness Center (with its spin studio and yoga classes), but they’re definitely on the list for next time. After all that excitement, we enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Hudson’s, where the food was as good as the vibes. The evening rolled on with the "Elements: The World Expanded" show which is an enhanced version of Norwegian Cruise Line’s hugely popular "Elements" production, which has been a guest favourite across four of their ships for 15 years since debuting on the Norwegian Spirit. This revamped edition, exclusive to the Norwegian Aqua started this year, takes the original concept—celebrating the four elements of earth, air, water, and fire—and amps it up with a more immersive and dazzling experience. It blends acrobatics, magic, and high-energy dance, featuring aerial performances that defy gravity, mesmerizing visual effects, and music that ties it all together. Developed by NCL’s in-house Creative Studios team in Tampa, Florida,(which we learned all about yesterday at the Guest Experience Panel) alongside award-winning Broadway choreographer Patricia Wilcox, the show evokes a deep emotional connection while delivering a spectacle that rivals big-city productions like those in Las Vegas. It’s staged in the ship’s innovative three-story Aqua Theater & Club, where you can either watch from traditional seating or get closer to the action, making it a standout night of entertainment that’s both thrilling and unforgettable. Then we capped it all off at the Improv Club, which was the nightclub for the night, dancing the night away to a live DJ. Departure came too soon—off the boat by 08:00 and back home, coached were laid on to the station which was just a 10 minute journey. As I unpack and settle in, I’m already replaying the memories: the canals of Bruges, the thrill of the Aqua Slidecoaster, and the sheer variety of things to do on the Norwegian Aqua. From adrenaline-pumping slides to relaxing poolside moments, this ship has it all. This cruise was everything I’d hoped for and more. Want a hassle-free, tailor-made trip like this? Day 2 Aboard the NCL Cruise to Bruges: A Packed Day of Insights and Indulgence

01 April 2025

Greetings from the high seas! Let me tell you about Day 2 of a fabulous 3-day cruise from Southampton to Bruges aboard an NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) ship. We’re en route to Zeebrugge, the port gateway to the charming Belgian city of Bruges, and today has been an exciting mix of professional enrichment, ship exploration, and pure relaxation. Let me take you through the highlights of this jam-packed day! Morning Bliss: Breakfast at Hudson’s The day kicked off with a delicious breakfast at Hudson’s, one of the ship’s inviting dining venues. I opted for the classic Eggs Benedict – perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise sauce, and a toasted English muffin. It was the ideal fuel for a busy morning ahead, paired with a strong cup of coffee and a stunning view of the sea stretching endlessly before us. There’s something magical about starting the day on a cruise ship – the gentle sway of the ocean and the promise of adventure on the horizon. NCL Sales and Marketing Panel at Aqua Theater (10:00) At 10:00, I headed to the Aqua Theater for the NCL Sales and Marketing Panel – a must-attend event for anyone in the travel industry. The session featured Gary Anslow (VP and Head of UK & Ireland) and Jason Krimmel (VP & Chief International Sales and Marketing Officer), who were interviewed by Lucy Huxley from Travel Weekly. The discussion was a deep dive into all things NCL – from their innovative approach to cruising to upcoming initiatives that have us all buzzing with excitement. A diverse group of travel partners joined the panel, broadening the conversation to cover trends and insights in the cruise industry as a whole. It was inspiring to hear from the leaders shaping the future of cruising, and I walked away with plenty of ideas to share with my customers. NCL Guest Experience Panel (11:15) Just over an hour later, at 11:15, I was back in the Aqua Theater for the NCL Guest Experience Panel. This session offered a behind-the-scenes look at what makes NCL’s onboard experience so special. Senior members of the Guest Experience Team shared updates on dining innovations, entertainment highlights, and some tantalising hints about future developments. I won’t spill all the secrets just yet, but let’s just say there are some exciting things on the horizon that will elevate the NCL experience even further. For anyone passionate about creating memorable vacations, this was a goldmine of information. A Peek into Luxury: Tour of The Haven After the panels, I had the privilege of joining a tour of The Haven – NCL’s exclusive “ship-within-a-ship” concept for guests seeking a little extra luxury. We explored the Deluxe Owner’s Suite, a sprawling retreat with elegant furnishings, a spacious balcony, and all the amenities you could dream of. Then, we stepped into the jaw-dropping 3-Bedroom Duplex – a two-story haven (pun intended!) with sophisticated décor, ample space, and panoramic views. It’s the kind of accommodation that makes you want to book your next cruise immediately. The Haven is truly a sanctuary of comfort and exclusivity, perfect for those looking to elevate their cruise experience. Thrills and Chills: The Aqua Slide Roller Coaster Next up was a dose of adrenaline on the ship’s Aqua Slide Roller Coaster. This isn’t your average water slide – it’s a thrilling hybrid of twists, turns, and splashes that had my heart racing. The views from the top were incredible, with the open sea stretching out in every direction. It’s a fantastic way to break up the day and let loose, and I’d recommend it to anyone who loves a bit of fun on their cruise. Evening Delights: Dinner at Hasuki and the Rumours Show As the day wound down, I headed to Hasuki for dinner with my Travel Counsellor colleagues. This Japanese-inspired restaurant delivered a feast for the senses, with an emphasis on fun – think fresh food, sizzling teppanyaki, and vibrant flavours that left me completely satisfied, and extremely full. After dinner, we headed to the Aqua theatre to catch The Rumours Show, as a massive Fleetwood Mac fan I couldn’t miss this interpretation of the classic album, and they did not disappoint! an energetic performance that had the audience singing along to classic hits. It was the perfect blend of nostalgia and entertainment, and the talented cast brought the house down. Finishing off at the Syd Norman’s Pour House To cap off the night, I stopped by the ship’s rock-and-roll themed venue for a nightcap. located on Deck 7, and it’s a hot spot, often packed due to its popularity (seating’s limited, so standing room is common). The band plays classics six nights a week, and on this ship, they’ve even expanded the Rumours Fleetwood Mac tribute to the main theater for bigger crowds, but the Pour House itself keeps that intimate, pub-like energy with live music at its core. Looking Ahead to Day 3 Tomorrow, we’ll dock in Zeebrugge, and I can’t wait to explore Bruges – its cobblestone streets, medieval charm, and, of course, the famous chocolate and waffles. Day 2 has been a whirlwind of professional insights, luxurious discoveries, and onboard fun, and I’m already excited to see what the final day of this cruise has in store. Stay tuned for more updates from the road (or rather, the sea)! If you’re considering a cruise with NCL or a trip to Bruges, feel free to reach out – I’d love to help you plan your own unforgettable journey. Happy travels, Johno [Your Travel Counsellor]

A Travel Counsellors Take on Norwegian Aqua Day 1

31 March 2025

A Travel Counsellor’s Take on Norwegian Aqua: My 3-Night Educational Cruise to Zeebrugge and Bruges – Day 1 As a UK-based travel counsellor, I’ve travelled far and wide but never really experienced much of cruising, so when Gary Anslow from Norwegian Cruise Line invited me on a 3-day educational cruise aboard their brand-new Norwegian Aqua, I couldn’t say no. Launched in March 2025 as the first of the Prima Plus Class, this ship promised to redefine cruising, and I was eager to see it firsthand to better advise my customers. Departing Southampton on March 25, 2025, with a stop in Zeebrugge for a day in Bruges, this short but immersive trip gave me a front-row seat to Aqua’s innovations and Belgium’s medieval charm. Here’s my professional take on this unforgettable journey. Day 1: Boarding in Southampton – A Travel Counsellor’s First Impressions I caught the train to Southampton, and NCL had a coach waiting to whisk us to the ship—a quick 10-minute journey. Stepping aboard Norwegian Aqua at Southampton’s port felt like a privilege; boarding was a breeze. I only had hand luggage, so I kept it with me, but porters were efficiently whisking people’s bags to their rooms. At 156,300 gross tons and over 1,000 feet long, this ship is a step up from its Prima Class siblings, Norwegian Prima and Viva. As part of the educational group, I joined fellow travel professionals for a warm crew welcome—their high staff-to-guest ratio immediately stood out. The ship’s hull, painted with Allison Hueman’s “Where the Sky Meets the Sea” artwork, hinted at the creativity inside. The Penrose Atrium buzzed with a boutique-hotel vibe: marble accents, rich tones, and a sense of space rare on cruises. I checked into my lovely new balcony stateroom, which included two lower beds that convert to a queen, a sitting area, and floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto a private balcony with amazing views—check out my video! The shower pressure was fantastic, which is unusual for a ship this size. Then it was time to explore. I headed to Deck 17 for the sail-away party—a lively affair with blaring music, flowing cocktails, and passengers dancing as we departed Southampton. It was a great chance to meet and network with fellow Travel Counsellors (about 100 of us were onboard). Our first evening at sea was fantastic, letting me explore as both a professional and a guest. We ate at The Commodore Room, the main dining venue included in the cruise fare offering a mix of classic and fresh dishes. Located on Deck 6, it’s larger than similar spots on earlier Prima-class ships, with more seating to ease wait times. The daily-changing menu featured options like seafood, steaks, and desserts like chocolate lava cake. It’s dinner-only with a casual dress code, following Norwegian’s “Freestyle Dining” style, and boasts a rustic-luxury vibe with ocean views. The lamb cutlets were delicious, paired with a nice wine choice. From there, we headed to the ship’s Aqua Theatre, where we caught "Revolution: A Celebration of Prince"—and it was electric. The Aqua Theater & Club was buzzing as the show kicked off, turning into a full-on Prince party. The lead singers owned the stage, belting out “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Purple Rain” with soul, and bought a fierce energy to “Delirious.” The backing dancers were fantastic, weaving around cool symbol-shaped set pieces. I watched from my seat while many passengers “went crazy” on the dancefloor. The last stop of the evening had to be the Whiskey Bar. Tucked away on Deck 6 near the new Swirl Wine Bar, it’s got a quieter, refined vibe compared to the ship’s livelier spots. Stay tuned for Day 2 at sea tomorrow when I really got chance to explore this stunning ship!

Costa Rica Special Birthday Holiday

19 July 2023

Some of my lovely customers recently went on a big family holiday to Costa Rica in June and were kind enough to send me a blog about the trip. Below is their story about the once in a lifetime Family trip to Costa Rica: We approached Johno with broad ideas of what we wanted for our families ‘big birthdays holiday’ in 2023. He absolutely smashed it with keeping teens & their old folks happy. We played with a couple of ideas, tweaked locations & dates & prices with an ever patient Johno, settling on Costa Rica. Staying in hotels/resorts which is not our usual form of holiday, but with confidence in Johno, we embraced the organised Travel App & schedules for our travels, handed over passport & info needed & Johno sorted flights, tour operators, transfer, accommodation & trips. Easy! We arrived in San Jose, the local operators had been keeping an eye on our delayed flights & were there to pick us up & take us to our first hotel. We were met in person the next morning, by the lovely Evelyn who took care of us from then until we were at the airport on our return – she answered all our questions on culture, language & the hows & whens of Costa Rican life – she was then on WhatsApp to tell us about weather, offering ideas on trips, letting us know when the driver would pick us up, advice on where to eat etc. Just amazing! No pushiness just genuinely there to help. Johno balanced adventure, travel to see different places, & not too long in private/ shared transfers perfectly for us. Our first stop was Arenal volcano, a beautiful resort - Montana de Fuego, with views of the volcano, onsite restaurant, pools & thermal hot spring pools. Spacious individual bungalows, with big comfy beds & deliciously cooling aircon. Temperatures & humidity are wonderful but still a bit of a shock when you come from Scotland. A walking tour up on the lava flow with informative guides, who are happy to show you the wildlife & flora as they go. We saw our first sloth en route! Thrilling white water rafting – a definite must, fun rafting guides who navigate the rapids, hauling those that fall in back into the raft(!), some swimming, lots of splashing, fruit stop on the beach & full beam grins from us all, captured in the photos. As we were here for 3 nights we managed to fit in another walking tour – hanging bridges, above & within the rainforest canopy – spectacular flora & fauna with knowledgeable & enthusiastic guides – well worth doing. Listening & watching the birdlife & monkeys from the balcony with a cup of Costa Rican coffee, was fabulous in the morning & watching fireflies & geckos at night Our next transfer, was shared mini bus to Arenal lake, which we crossed on a foot passenger ferry & collected by another driver on the other side. Up the windy roads up to the cloud forest, so called for being in rain – must have known we had our fair share in Scotland, so rained around us & never on us! El Establo mountain a large resort, big spacious rooms & views over the mountains to the sea, with huge skies & amazing sunsets & lightning storm shows. Fabulous breakfasts with tropical fruits, typical local foods & plenty to do at the resort with a pool & further up the resort, tennis courts & a restaurant. We did the exhilarating looong ziplines from the top of the mountain & again, a fun family day, usually followed by needing to eat & later a wee nap, as the adrenaline deficit kicks in ?? Our last week was spent surfing, snorkelling, drinking cocktails & appreciating shady spots on the beach, in Tamarindo at Wyndham. Temperatures were up to 33C, humidity high & although the sea was warm, still refreshing. The hotel had fabulous view towards the ocean as it was high up on a hill, stunning pool with a pool bar, they have a free shuttle service to their beach club & a downtown drop off for a huge selection of restaurants to choose from. Wonderful shady trees & loungers on the beach, with use of their pool & restaurant. Perfect combo. We did a fantastic catamaran snorkelling trip with dinner, complimentary rainbow & spectacular sunset, as you sip you mocktail, cocktail or beer. Snorkelling was amazing – we saw eagle rays, colourful fish & coral, & from the boat, humpback whales & dolphins. Magical. The people of Costa Rica are really genuine gracious people, friendly, without being overbearing. Proud of their country, free medical & education system, very socially aware & produce all their own electricity! Exporting superb coffee & sugar(cane),pineapples & tropical plants that we buy in the UK. The main language is Spanish, but they are very accommodating with trying as much English as they can. They import a lot, so most consumables & food is expensive. A trip of a lifetime, we all had an incredible time – 2 out of the 4 came back with golden tans! 4 out of 4 put on some pounds! Rested & restored … once we get over the jetlag. Johno thank you! Happy du Toit family, who have celebrated all birthdays well x

Alaskan Adventure

12 October 2020

Back in 2017, the top of my bucket list of places I wanted to visit was Alaska, the largest state in the USA. In my previous life, where I worked as the head of the product department for a tour operator, I was lucky enough to be invited to go on an educational trip with Iceland Air and the Pursuit Collection - I jumped at the chance. The tourist season in Alaska is very short, usually from mid-May until mid-September - we were just going to catch the end of the season and I was very excited! We were to travel out on the 13th and back on the 18th September 2017. So, first thing to cross my mind was ‘what to pack?’. Well, at the end of the summer season it is still cold, so winter walking gear seems the best attire; not quite ski gear but you do need warm clothing. We all met up at Heathrow airport to catch the Iceland Air flight to Anchorage via Reykjavik. A popular choice when visiting Alaska is to stay a couple of nights in Iceland on the way to see things like the Blue Lagoon or drive the Golden Circle. We were on a tight schedule so we only had a couple of hours in Reykjavik airport before we were off again to our destination. The flight and connection were very easy - Reykjavik Airport was undergoing a renovation so there was not much to do there but that should be all finished by now. Alaska is the largest US state and five times larger than the UK with a population of only 700,000 people and half of those live within the Anchorage metropolitan area. On arrival we headed off to the town of Talkeetna; a town formed in 1916 when the area was designated headquarters for the Alaska Railroad. We stayed in the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, a large 212 room lodge that offers outstanding views of Denali and the Alaska range. The Towering River Rock fireplace is a stunning centre piece; a magnificent 46-foot fireplace created from of rocks from the Matanuska River. The next day, after a good rest, we headed off to the Denali National Park, learning loads more about Alaska during the course of the day. Up until the mid 1800s Alaska was part of Russia. According to the locals, Russia decimated the otter population for their thick fur and didn’t see any value in keeping hold of it once they were gone so they sold it to the USA in 1867 for $7.2 million or about 2 cents per acre. I think the U.S. Secretary of State William Seward got a great deal there and you will be happy to know the otter population is now thriving once again. The Denali National Park is a 6-million-acre national park with the 20,310 feet high Denali Mountain at its heart - the highest mountain in North America. The tour into the park was great: wide open spaces and watching out for the Alaskan big 5 - grizzly bears, wolves, moose, caribou and dall sheep! We stayed overnight in the Denali Cabins: just eight miles from the National Park. Nestled in the wilderness, these 46 cedar cabins are an idyllic setting. In the morning, we were off to the Denali Translation for a trip on the world-famous Denali Star - Alaska Railroad’s flagship train - for a beautiful journey on the glass roofed train back to Talkeetna. With hardly any light-pollution, this location is perfect to see the Northern Lights but unfortunately, on this occasion, we didn’t get to see them. There were so many highlights on this trip, but the next part was probably top of my list. We headed to the K2 Aviation offices and got ready for an hours flight in a small 12-seater aircraft to go and see the Denali National Park and mountain range from the air. This was spectacular and the pilot was great; flying over the glacier was an unforgettable experience. Back to Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge to warm up by the fire and a good night’s sleep. The next day we took a nice walk into Talkeetna town itself for a huge breakfast in the Talkeetna Roadhouse; this place was great fun and had atmosphere in abundance: a great spot for a hearty breakfast. Next up, it was back into Anchorage for an overnight stay at the Hilton Anchorage; a well located hotel in the city and a short walk to the train station. This is where we headed to for the Coastal Classic Train to Seward which offers another hearty breakfast en-route. On arrival at Seward, we headed down to the harbour and picked up the Kenai Fjords tour where we saw a vast range of wildlife: seals, otters, whales, puffins and even a pair of Golden Eagles. The Alaskan wildlife was incredible. After an amazing tour, we headed of to our final hotel of the trip - the Seward Windsong Lodge: a serene estate nestled into the ancient Exit Glacier Valley just outside of Seward. The 180 comfortable guest rooms are entwined with the boreal forest and the Resurrection River. It was a perfect base camp for exploring the natural wonders of the nearby Exit Glacier and Kenai Fjords National Park – both by land and by sea. Our last treat was a walking tour to visit the Exit Glacier Area. Exit Glacier is the primary destination for visitors to witness, up close, the power of the glaciers - to see a glacier up close and personal was an amazing experience. It is also the home to the Exit Glacier Nature Centre. 5 days in the stunning Alaska was an experience I will never forget and a destination I can thoroughly recommend.

Dominican Republic Winter Sun

11 August 2020

During December 2019, I was lucky enough to be invited on, what we call in the trade, a ‘Fam’ trip to the East coast of the Dominican Republic, sponsored by Playa Hotels and British Airways. These familiarisation trips are where we get to check out the destinations and hotels that we sell, to give us that detailed product knowledge we need to provide the best service to our customers - they are also a lot of FUN! I was doubly excited as I used to work in the North of the island in Puerta Plata years ago, so was very much looking forward to going back. We all met up at Gatwick airport, raring to go but we were missing one of our new group of friends... Having waited as long as we could, we checked in, went through to departures and finally received a text from our missing party member - she had somehow tagged onto a different Fam trip that were going to visit the Palladium group of hotels in Dom Rep - she had checked in with them and started to get to know everyone. We had her back now and proceeded to tease her for the rest of the trip about this! After the obligatory beverage in departures, we headed through for an on-time departure to Punta Cana. As always the BA crew were excellent and looked after us for the nine hour flight out to resort. I always quite enjoy the journey on long haul flights; making the most of watching the latest movie releases and catching up on a bit of reading. Dominican Republic is a Spanish speaking country on the second largest island in the Caribbean; an island called Hispaniola that it shares with the French speaking country, Haiti. For our first two nights we were guests at the Hyatt Zilara & Ziva, two brand new 5* luxury hotels just 15 minutes from the airport in the resort of Cap Cana. The property is in two sections, the Zilara being the adult only section, and the Ziva perfect for Families. The facilities in the properties are superb, with a 1400 sq. ft. fitness centre that puts my local fitness centre to shame. There is a great choice of restaurants and the attention to detail in décor throughout is something else. From Journeys, serving Indian Cuisine featuring its own train style seating, to Tempest Table, serving Asian cuisine with a Mongolian grill and Teppan tables. The facilities include a 26.900 sq. ft. spa and the Canapolis Water Park which boasts a lazy river with grotto cascade, water cannons and five slides. Next stop was a one-night stay at the Sanctuary Cap Cana, which is five minutes from the Hyatt and a totally different style of property. Built in a Spanish colonial style, this elegant hotel recently had a $45 million modernisation and features 5 bars, 5 restaurants and a world class spa. You can book rooms either in the traditional castle part of the property or the new blocks added in 2019. Our final stay was at the Hilton La Romana (formerly Dreams La Romana) a firm favourite with UK and Ireland holiday makers and has just undergone a multi-million dollar full refurbishment - they stripped it back and is now virtually a brand new hotel. It is split into two sections, a Family and an Adult section, with amazing shared facilities including a full waterpark. The Family section wasn’t quite finished when we were there but the General Manager took us round for a hard-hat site visit. We all had a surprise when all the builders turned out to include the hotel animation team and they turned into a Flash-Mob (dancing to the hotel’s theme song) it was so much fun! Then they laid on a stunning meal with a building work theme complete with great entertainment. The work is all finished now so you will find the property in its full renovated glory and the team just as fun and attentive! The marvellous hosts at AMG marketing and Playa Hotels had one final treat for us on the final day in Dominican Republic and we took a cruise out to the beautiful island of Saona, no trip to the East coast is complete without a trip here. The cruise’s emphasis is on fun, fun, fun with free flowing “Cuba Libres” (rum and coke) and beer. Saona Island is the quintessential Caribbean paradise, where we enjoyed the beautiful white sand beaches and more delicious food. That marked the end of our 5-day trip. I made lots of new friends and reminded myself how much I love to travel - especially to the Caribbean. If the Dominican Republic appeals to you or, specifically any of the hotels I’ve mentioned, please drop me an e-mail or give me a call and I can send you a quote - there are some great deals there that I can thoroughly recommend.

Excellent service. Couldn’t have been more helpful even after we’d booked our trip

Johno booked us a recent trip to Tenerife which was fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble for him, a very personal service. His expertise in travel is obvious with his detail to planning. He researched every element of our holiday and discussed every detail with us to ensure that it was our holiday He advised us all about covid restrictions and links to completing locator forms. We were so impressed with Johno’s professionalism that we booked a short break to Krakow with him within two days of returning from Tenerife. Again searching to ensure that all our needs were covered. Flights, hotel choice, transfers and daily itinerary. Looking forward to working with Johno and Travel Counsellors again soon. Thank you so much.

Up until now I’ve been a DIY holiday maker and never considered the powers of independent travel advice and support. It was therefore intriguing to have our first 121 as it coincided with plans for a “once in a lifetime” trip – I just didn’t know where to. Tentatively I thought I’d make an enquiry and throughout working with you I’ve been blown away by just how considerate, experienced, knowledgeable and patient you have been. Every step you’ve taken has been considered with us in mind. It’s a joy to work with you. We started this with no clue and so travelled to Costa Rica, Thailand, South Africa which all have natural wonders and cultural charm – you did a lot of work providing options for us. The plan is the well-trodden Florida trip but with a few special twists. Yes, Florida is not seeing Sloths in Costa Rican rainforest, but Florida is entirely suitable for our young family right now. Not only will we be visiting Disney and Universal, but we’ll be staying in a luxury Villa, going to Cape Canaveral, swimming with Manatees, driving the Florida Keys, partying in Miami and even spent three nights aboard a cruise to the Bahamas. This trip has surpassed all expectations and I should add I genuinely don’t know how you’ve managed to achieve it all within our budget – it’s exceptional value for what we’re getting. Late on in the process, my best mate’s Mum sadly passed away unexpectedly and so Jeff has inherited some money and wanted it to make it a double family holiday. This was all very last minute and I’ve no doubt this caused a bit of extra work for you, but I’d never have known it. You’ve been nothing but kind and generous. Thank you ever so much – it’s lovely to “have” a travel agent!

This year has been incredibly tough, on a professional and personal level. I know I have struggled with remaining positive when others won’t, finding it difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We recently received the long awaited news of potential vaccines being available. As soon as the announcement came through I reached out to Johno. First of all, I chose to reach out to him for his positivity and deep knowledge of the travel industry . I shared with Johno one of my life long dreams of seeing the Northern Lights with my family. Johno quickly understood my needs and drafted an initial itinerary, and over the last couple of weeks we have been fine tuning what I can only describe as a trip of a life time. It is so encouraging to see how excited he is also getting from this itinerary. Johno listens, provides constructive feedback and helps me materialise this dream as well as making sure that my potential investment for this trip is completely covered. I can not wait to book this amazing trip. In the meantime, I must thank Johno for helping me build a trip of a lifetime, making it simple and fun – to the point that each time his name appears in my inbox it makes me smile. Thank you Johno.
