A Magical Mini-Break in Prague: Style, Flavour and Christmas Sparkle
Our festive adventure began at Heathrow Terminal 3, where check-in was seamless and stress-free. With a sense of excitement, we made our way to the British Airways lounge for a relaxed breakfast, the first delicious taste of the premium journey awaiting us.
Our Club Europe flight departed right on time, delivering us to Prague twenty minutes ahead of schedule, giving us plenty of time to savour a Christmas Turkey dinner in the sky, even if it was only 10:35am. Onboard comforts and access to the lounge were beautifully included, elevating the travel experience from the very start.
On arrival, we breezed through the new EES border process, which was swift and smooth. A helpful tip is to sit near the front of the plane to be among the first through. In no time at all, we were whisked away by Uber. The process was effortless thanks to Uber representatives just outside, guiding us directly to our car.
Half an hour later, we arrived at The Mozart, our home for the next three nights. Perfectly located in the Old Town, the hotel faces the Vltava River and offers captivating views of Prague Castle. Greeted by genuinely warm staff, we were swiftly checked into our Deluxe Suite: vast, beautifully appointed, and bursting with thoughtful touches. Rituals toiletries, complimentary drinks, and a spacious living area made it feel more like a chic city apartment than a hotel room.
Eager to explore, we set out to soak up the storybook charm of Prague’s historic lanes. That evening, we discovered a hidden gem in ‘W’ restaurant, where the food was as inviting as the ambience. After a feast, we made our way back for a restorative early night.
The next morning, a river cruise beckoned. By venturing out at 11am, we enjoyed the calm before the crowds. From the open top deck, Prague unfolded in all its winter glory, creating a scenic and soothing hour on the water.
Lunch at the iconic Café Louvre was worth the brief wait, followed by a stroll across Charles Bridge to Prague Castle and Golden Lane. Although busy, the area brimmed with history and I’d encourage an early start for a quieter visit.
As dusk settled, Prague’s legendary Christmas Markets came alive. Twinkling lights, festive scents, and artisan stalls were captivating. Wandering into Oliva Nera, a charming Italian tucked along a pedestrian lane, felt like stumbling upon a secret. The pasta was simply superb, and the atmosphere magical, with outdoor heaters radiating warmth.
On 9 December, our 21st wedding anniversary, we wandered the city hand in hand before a fascinating tour of the Astronomical Clock. The climb to the top of the tower rewarded us with staggering city vistas, a true highlight. Later, we celebrated with a fine dining experience at Terasa U Zlate Studne. Tucked away and a little hard to find (thank goodness for Google Maps), this hidden gem truly delivered. The food was exquisite, and I can only imagine how enchanting it would be to dine on their summer rooftop terrace, high above Prague’s rooftops.
Before we knew it, it was time to return home, our spirits lifted by Prague’s festive energy, its rich history, and the warm welcome throughout.
My top tips for visiting Prague:
Take comfortable shoes for exploring the city’s cobbled streets
Pre-book attractions, as they are popular and sell out quickly
Visit main sights early to beat the crowds and make the most of your time
Prague is a city that captures the heart, beautifully walkable, steeped in history, and brimming with hidden delights. Sixty thousand steps in three days felt effortless when every turn revealed another piece of its magic.
